Tuesday, December 04, 2007 7:05:10 AM The things on the bottom are basically hovercrafts, allowing it to land and take of very easily on short runways or even fields. It's slow but not THAT slow. There are plans to use something very like this to provide a Cambridge-Oxford air service, though whether it will be commercially successful... |

Monday, December 03, 2007 1:36:43 PM Rifter, wtf? More efficient economically maybe, but I'm pretty sure jets and rotaries and even multi engines would be favoured for the following reasons:1. Blimps are slow. 2. Blimps are awkward to move around, and with iddy biddy desk fans stearing it, they depend on the wind as to whether they can fly. 3. Blimps are HUGE. They're sooo much easier to spot on radar, and so much easier to intercept. Rant finished, lets all enjoy the Chinook :) |

Monday, December 03, 2007 10:10:36 AM like wowibrandon said, it looks like a giant elephant. And for those asking about the practical use of a blimp... they use far less fuel than jets and helicopters so carrying heavy equipment over long distances would be more efficient. The main drawback is maneuverability. It makes good sense, which is why it will never come to fruition! |

Monday, December 03, 2007 9:08:11 AM they just tried to copy the aeroscraft but not even close in the design I personally think the aeroscraft is far more probable to become real than this model.... |
