Friday, November 23, 2007 11:36:22 AM I think my favorite part is that neither the video nor the IAB post spell "lightning" correctly. The IAB post says "lightening" and the video itself is titled "Struck by lighting". I love it! Gotta watch out for those lamps! |

Tuesday, November 20, 2007 9:48:54 PM "Isolated for a normal-ish electrical current maybe. Not the the thousands of amps you get in a lightning bolt. That amount of current can make almost anything conduct." ~ almightybob 1sorry to say, but its not current. its extremely high voltage that is being grounded out. it is thousands of volts that can make anything conduct, amps is only the amount of current flowing, not the charge. but it would probably have some decent current through it maybe. |

Tuesday, November 20, 2007 2:42:00 PM But then again, lighting is one pretty quick shrew. So if it's real I doubt it would be too many cameras able to ctach it. |

Tuesday, November 20, 2007 1:10:29 AM The air is only heated by that much if it's a part of the energy transfer known as lightning. While the air around it is definitely heated by such close proximity to plasma, it's not nearly as hot. If it was a full strike, then yes...the guy could've been burned pretty badly. The time it takes for lightning to strike means there's very little time for the heat to spread enough to burn a person, even if they're that close. I'm sure he got quite the scare, though, and probably crapped his pants. That's just as good in my book. |

Tuesday, November 20, 2007 12:26:46 AM I call fake. Being inches away from something that is hotter then the sun and not getting any kind of burns... From Wiki..."Lightning heats nearby air to about 10,000 °C (18,000 °F) nearly instantly, which is almost twice the temperature of the Sun’s surface. The heating creates a shock wave that is heard as thunder." But IDK for sure... |

Monday, November 19, 2007 11:31:02 PM "Chance of getting struck by lightning: 1 billion to 1 Chance of getting struck by lighting when a camera is on: 30 to 1.What have we learnt?" that youre not even good at exaggeration. 30:1? so if you have a camera youre thirty times more likely to get stuck by lightning than to NOT get struck? or do you mean, for every normal video, there are 30 that fake lightning strikes? either way, thats definitely a little extreme but congrats to that crew for standing where lightning just struck for a couple minutes to talk about it |

Monday, November 19, 2007 9:04:12 PM It's real enough and plausible. As JaundiceCake said it wasn't a direct hit from the lightening but a fork from the lightening hitting the vent. The kick stand was important because the bike is on tires and rubber doesn't conduct the current so the charge jumped from the vent to the kickstand. Not the world's authority here, but I live in the lightening capital of the world so that must have some credibility. :o) |
