Well after reading these comments I've come to the conclusion that a lot of you are sheltered moron hippies! I already knew that though, the real revelation was that some of you *actually have* common sense and an ability to judge things properly. Congrats.

Aftershock still destroyed you all. Man I want to have that guy's babies.

Puppies... consider this just for a minute. You are getting your information from a news article. Do you think that maybe THEY got it wrong, and not the police? Unless you read the actual police report, and not the news reporter's version of the report, you can't say they cop was not telling the truth. I've seen it too many times... Maybe the news people are in a hurry to get the story out, so they quickly read... "the officer fired through the windshield at the person trying to run him over, and hit him two times..." So that reported says that he fired twice.

I find it hard to believe that the officer would say that he fired only twice, when he probably reviewed the video himself before writing the report. Also, his supervisor would review the report, and after seeing the video would know that it would not be accurate, so have the officer fix his report. News people are just idiots in general, so I would feel safer saying they screwed up rather than the police.

This genuinely shocked me. I usually can't stand cops, since the ones in my area are crooks. I didn't watch this and think that the cops were jerks or that the guy didn't deserve what happened to him.
I just can't believe it got that far. It makes me want to cry. I guess I'm a bit of a weak heart tonight.

State laws and police department policy typically let officers use deadly force to defend themselves or others from the threat of death or serious injury. Deadly force also is allowed to prevent the escape of a suspect in a violent felony who poses an immediate threat to others

fire at least 6 times.

I'm not saying this was wrong and i fully agree with his actions, also i have nothing but sympathy for hard working police forced to quit their jobs because of heat from the media or "cop haters" on the net. But if a simple report to the media cannot even be accuratly described then it raises the question was it a simple mistake or were they fudging the truth to make it sound like the cop showed more control than he did.

And then to cap it all off they go and upload the video to the net. Ha morons

A lot of these accusations of wrongful arrest or un-needed force being used could be stopped if the officers in question stopped making up blatant lies as i have seen several videos where the officer was unaware he was being recorded and then either reported a slightly changed version of events or just took a trip to fairy land and blatantly lied to justify his actions.

Ok sometimes the officers may have misheard or misinterpreted a situation and be telling the truth as they see it but sometimes they are just talking bull.

As for the smartarse who posted the link to the police report on the second page of this thread WHY DON'T YOU READ IT YOURSELF.
"After another collision, the car stopped again, and an officer attempted to arrest Bennett. When Bennett tried to hit the officer with the car, the officer ended up on the car's hood and fired twice, hitting Bennett at least once."

Mmmmmm fired twice did he, i'm pretty sure every single person in this thread saw him fir

I am so glad I live in Norway.
I can only remember one incident where a cop killed a "bad guy", and none of them had guns...

"Yeah, the guy was running, but I don't think they were justified in killing the guy."

So let me get this straight. You are chasing a guy for miles and miles at 100MPH+. You finally ram him off the road (the only way you've been able to stop him so far). You jump on top of the car and draw your weapon and tell the driver to stop. The driver doesn't.

What do you think the driver is going to do?

A) Pull over on the side of the road and stop peacefully.
B) Take the officer to Denny's and treat him to a free dinner.
C) Try to escape, regardless of the fact that it may cost the officer his life.
D) You're retarded. The answer is C.

There is no "other option". Either you are thrown from the car at a rapid speed into the pavement, resulting in serious injury or death, or you stop the driver. Any hesitance, any second thought, any pacifist act can and will get you killed in a situation like that.

"why do american police think they could put innocent people in danger, just to get the criminals."

Not catching criminals puts the innocent people in much more danger.

"Yeah, they did something wrong. I know plenty of ways to stop a driver. The easiest would be to shoot out his tires."

Yeah, so then he can run you over with flat tires. Please. Cap the murderous SoB cop killer. I don't feel sorry for him. If a cop draws a gun on you, you don't react by putting the cop's life in danger.

"...many states have regulations against drawing a weapon against a driver unless the driver is using a deadly weapon besides the vehicle itself."

What a crappy law. Whoever wrote it needs to be "assaulted" by a vehicle. Don't worry, it doesn't count as a "deadly weapon", he'll be fine. /sarcasm

Seems to me they didn't have to kill the guy. At the beginning of the video, the cop said the guy tried to ram him. I didn't see it like that. Yeah, the guy was running, but I don't think they were justified in killing the guy.

j-allen. Now you are getting the picture, if more guys were like you and left the police force this kind of crap wouldn't happen. I moved away from Ohio partly because of the Police State there. I now live in Portland Oregon where cops can't take a crap without civil rights groups jumping all over them. And guess what? We have ALMOST NO VIOLENT CRIME because we have a civil society here. I love it here; no cops, no crime, it is paradise. Cept for the rain..

I live nearby where that happened and my mom works at the hospital the guy went to. He was only hit 2 or so times but the officer shot more because he didn't make contact with him in the beginning.

I agree with what the cops did because the guy was driving like a maniac. If the cops didn't end it there then others could have been seriously hurt. If i was that cop i would've emptied my clip into the guy because i would've felt my life was in danger. If a police officer feels that his life or any other persons life is in danger than they are allowed to do whatever they deem necessary to end the conflict with as little casualties as possible(if they are needed).

If you read the report you'd have known that this guy had a criminal background, even without the police officers knowing this they were still right in what they did because they were making sure that no one else got hurt. And the passenger wasn't hurt at all so we have to give the cop props for having good aim.

Actually, don't commit crimes. Even better. Life doesn't have to be that hard unless we let it.

I was a cop for ten years. The responses here are the reason I left. A handful here understand, the rest are clueless. I'm not going to make assumptions about why. I wasn't there. I will say that every state and jurisdiction has slightly different policies regarding this, so don't say the cops were wrong based on your local policies. I was trained with a "use of force paradigm" which starts at the lowest level of mere presence, and escalates to deadly force. Keep in mind that you don't have to start at the bottom, a situation can immediately require deadly force. I was taught that my sidearm was considered deadly force, and always trained to shoot "center mass" (vital organs) to eliminate the threat. Someone driving a two-ton "missile" can inflict more harm to society in a less amount of time than a gun firing pedestrian. We have eternity to criticize these officers from our computers when they had seconds to decide.

Cops in the US are only supposed to disarm unless they are threatend with some kind of firearm or weapon. THEN they shoot to kill. Those cops were doing the right thing, well cept mabey the guy on the windsheild. That was kinda over-kill but mabey the windshield was super thick or sumthin. If that guy in the car didn't have a gun then the cops should have just done some warning shots and gotten that guy outta the car, ship him off to jail, and gotten the bastard outta here. Pretty sweet action though.

police chases are the worst kind of police behavior and it should be illigal."

You are f*cking stupid.

So they should let the suspect GO, that would solve EVERYTHING, he's not a danger to anyone.
