Sunday, October 14, 2007 3:18:23 AM Clashrocker: Thats exactly what im talking about! You assume all slim girls starve themselves, when some are actually healthy, and are naturally slim. No wonder you are imature and arrogant your not even an adult yet, so grow up already, and stop critisizing! |

I've never understood the complaints of skinny girls, you're pretty much idolized by the media. STFU and go eat a pasta dinner. |

Sunday, October 07, 2007 3:23:05 PM “They must be joking! People can't be that sensitive. Not a chance. No - wait. I forgot where I was living for a moment. Self esteem is about as prevalent as intelligence around here... what a shame.”While the focus on self-esteem can get out of hand, I think you’re missing the point. We do not live in a vacuum. As women, we are exposed to these images on a daily basis. Think about how you would feel if everyday, year after year, you were exposed to images of half-naked men with big muscles in every newspaper, magazine, website, and television show you watched. You can’t tell me that wouldn’t have an impact on you. I’m not a fan of body fascism no matter what the body type. Nor do I expect mass media to use “unattractive” models. But so many people compare themselves to images that are altered and unrealistic. It’s something to take notice of.

Saturday, October 06, 2007 10:59:21 PM Pianoman21: How can someone have their self-appreciation, when they are told that they are nothing because of how they look? There are two kinds of people: those who listen to the masses and those who don't. Unfortunately, many of us do listen to the masses, and not enough of us don't. |

Friday, October 05, 2007 3:47:46 AM Sure, you can blame guys... for some of it, but in all honesty, blame other girls instead. Little girls are being taught by their mothers early on to wear make-up and exercise to be fit, not their dads. Girls pressure each others into being the most fit and best looking, you don't need guys for that. It's probably your perception of what you think guys want that drives you into blaming us. One issue is really only that we CAN alter ourselves from ugly to beauty queen today. If someone has small breasts and make an implant and you have even smaller breasts than she did, what will that make you feel about yourself? No, men get too much blame for this. And also, men have a lot of pressures as well, there's just no talking about it in society. |

Wednesday, October 03, 2007 12:23:51 PM "Obesity is a much bigger problem then anorexia " .....Well it would be, wouldn't it."Lmao...good one! But anyways...yeah great commercial. Whenever I used to feel "below average" I listened to the song "Just Be" by Tiesto. At least read over the lyrics and think about them ladies (and guys)...they're very true. that's all... :)

Wednesday, October 03, 2007 8:38:25 AM How sweet and condescending, wolfio, thank you.Girls: Everyone read The Beauty Myth, by Naomi Wolf. It's an amazing text. It'll piss you off, but in the good way. Also, researching the development of standards for women isn't a bad idea. Knowing how we were expected to behave in ages past helps us to understand today's expectations. |

Wednesday, October 03, 2007 5:13:08 AM Geez, what's up with everyone today?! Arguments are flying left, right and centre. I think everyone needs to take a deep breath lol.I think the Dove ads are great, because I'm sick of hearing about size 0 models making themselves ill with bulimia and anorexia etc., eating less than 500 calories a day and things like that. There's no way our kids should be exposed to that. |

Wednesday, October 03, 2007 2:13:49 AM ^ You know, you can always copy your last post, paste it into the field at the bottom, fix what needs to be changed, repost it and delete your old one (making sure no one has posted since); that way, you don't need to waste time making these needless corrections later. |

Wednesday, October 03, 2007 1:59:48 AM i have to say, this is a good commercial, but i still am self conscious about myself, i do see other girls my age and i see what features they have that are better than mine, but then again i should be i guess, but i still do :) |
