Friday, October 12, 2007 12:49:04 PM The \/ sign here in the UK means "f*** off" as opposed to "up yours". There's an old story about it being used to taunt the french before battles, as caught longbowmen had their fingers cut off to prevent them ever firing a bow again. |

Sunday, September 30, 2007 7:12:53 PM Number 9, "The Corna"That also means bullsh*t in sign-language...So remember kids, when all those folks out there are giving the rock on signal to their favorite song or band...It means that they are saying their favorite band or song is bullsh*t... |

Sunday, September 30, 2007 4:50:45 PM I laughed at Churchill flicking the Vs. How could he possibly not know there was a difference between that and 'peace'? |

Sunday, September 30, 2007 3:20:21 PM You are raight fatalicus, in Texas the "Corna" means a bull and it is known as the "hand gesture" representative of the University of Texas...so as you pointed out, she was not making any "satanic sign" nor she meant "rock on", but she is/was actually a student of the University of Texas. By the way, it does mean (specially in Latin America) that your wife is cheating on you ("it is putting the horns on you" an idiomatic expression that does not make sense in English...sorry), but at the same time when you are mad (as in this case with the referee in a match) by doing that you mean "cabron" which is a very common "bad word" in Latin America. |

Sunday, September 30, 2007 2:45:27 PM well the thumbs up one is true. When I ordered a pasta dish in Italy the waiter brought me my food and I said "Grazie" and gave him a thumbs up. I was asked to leave. |

Sunday, September 30, 2007 2:04:36 PM does't The “Corna” signal big horns in texas? (like a bull with big horns, meaning a good bull?I think i remember something like that from the time where Bush' daughter did that sign (what you see in the picture) and people said she made a satanic sign, but it was later explained that in texas it was a good sign, because of the bull thing. |

Sunday, September 30, 2007 1:17:12 PM Did anyone else notice that nearly every gesture seemed to taunt the Italians? For a race that talks with their hands a lot, that CAN'T be good. |

Sunday, September 30, 2007 12:37:41 PM I always thought of #7 to be a peace sign. Never thought of it to be a rude gesture. It seems to be the opposite in Great Britian. It basicly means "peace" here in the US but in Britian it's "Fighting talk"! o.O I've also notice in anime where they use the peace sign a lot. I'm guessing for the Japanese it means "peace" as well. |

Sunday, September 30, 2007 12:29:43 PM Actually, according to myriad documentaries on the History and Discovery channels, the thumbs-up/thumbs-down gesture really was used back in the days of the Coliseum, only by the emperor, not the people. |
