Tuesday, September 04, 2007 2:46:59 PM technically its not COMPLETE darkness if there is a flashlight used for it...I think the flashlight was just to see. I don't think it was the one he constructed, as he filtered that one. |

Monday, September 03, 2007 5:22:10 PM ConverseUK ~ "Want my advice? Buy IR LEDs and make an IR torch. Then use it and find out that your pre-millenium camera doesnt detect much at all." copying what i said previously then saying it doesnt work? BS! it does work, ive done it with my web cam. and it shows it happening on this youtube video as well ( not my video btw ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz-hZJkwJOI |

Monday, September 03, 2007 2:56:26 PM "Do you think they'd sell cameras with this useless feature? I think not."I think they would, because how are you meant to line up a photograph in the dark if you can't at least see a bit in the first place? Plus, any lightbulb emits infra-red radiation. Want proof? Try touching a lightbulb after it's been on for even a minute. The reason you burn your hand is the infra-red radiation, because that's what heat is. |

Monday, September 03, 2007 2:12:21 PM Want my advice? Buy IR LEDs and make an IR torch. Then use it and find out that your pre-millenium camera doesnt detect much at all. Real night-vision equipment is VERY sensitive and can be ruined my merrly removing the lens cap in daylight. I know this because my dad owns an expensive night vision aid. Do you think they'd sell cameras with this useless feature? I think not. |

Monday, September 03, 2007 1:38:25 PM [got cut off, the last word is "emitter"]might add that this probably isn't using true IR but a wavelength of around 1um, only just longer than the average person can see |

Monday, September 03, 2007 1:32:38 PM The MetaCafe site certainly does contain a lot of bullpooting videos- I remember something about using a candle to generate electricity (and not by using a heat engine, or anything even approaching logically possible)But that still isn't a reason to dismiss all the instructional videos out of hand, as I have already pointed out. In this video the guy uses what looks like normal bulb flashlight, this *will* emit IR radiation. He uses several sheets of tinted cellophane to filter out all the noticeable visible light. The cellophane will still allow the IR radiation to shine through. The camera he is using has a night-time mode, that detects IR to get a clearer picture. Shining the torch will increase the amount of light the camera can detect, just as shining an unfiltered torch would increase the amount of light your eye would detect. Many cameras use a similar night mode and many cameras come with built in IR emitters. This vid is only really showing how to make an IR em |

My bad. I saw a similar clip on metacafe, by KipKay, who just stuck cellophane into goggles, to block out the visible wavelengths of light. I just assumed this was the same clip. Shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. |

Monday, September 03, 2007 12:06:56 PM You're losing your line of argument, guys/guy. I'll try to answer your questions nonetheless...I believe this is a new concept, which somebody has spent time refining (whethter it does or does not work) thus rendering it an invention. Secondly, I wasn't commenting on grammar, I was refering to your articulation (or lack thereof). Dust_monkey, I don't see the point insulting my opted account name, especially when yours has apparently no relevance to anything at all. If you really want to know, I looked at the first thing in my room (being one of my pairs of Converse Allstars) and chose that. If there's anyting else you want to know about me, please feel free to ask. Now to address the point about the MetaCafe site; people are encouraged to make videos with a very high appeal, meaning they often consist of outrageous claims. The bigger the claim, the more views the video gets, the more money the owner receives. Also, I don't care about your disability and the way you *use it*. |

Monday, September 03, 2007 11:25:23 AM ohnoes, did someone on the internets not use proper grammar?this isnt an invention anyways the way metacafe makes money has no bearing on the validity of this vids claims neither does my (evidently very offensive lack of grammar) you have managed to make a statement and back it up with two of the most fallacious arguments on my interwebs fofofofo if you care to explain why this "invention" as you call it doesnt work then perhaps i might turn up the grammar slightly kthxbai |

Monday, September 03, 2007 10:06:17 AM RelaxEnjoy, what language are you typing in?You too, dust_monkey...this isn't a pre-school group. This 'invention' doesn't work. 99% of these 'inventions' don't work. They rely on fools like you to watch the video multiple times so they earn more money. Yes, metacafe has a system which pays the makers of movies for getting traffic to their site, and you're all suckers for it. Stop feeding these lazy moviemakers for telling us lies, its just a way of them to sit at home earning money from other peoples' stupidity. |

Monday, September 03, 2007 9:46:22 AM yes dust_monkey you may well be correct (certainly about ConverseUK, atleast)my reasoning was that he uses a few more sheets of red, to block out all shorter than it, then a couple of sheets of blue to block out some of the longer wavelengths, resulting in all the visible red being blocked but still letting enough IR through for it to work |

Monday, September 03, 2007 9:38:13 AM relax and enjoy your not quite right there..blue cellophane will only alow blue light in red will only alow red thru, add them together no light can get thru apart from the light not in the visable spectru eg inferred any way there is a better and cheeper way to do this imo, just buy a infered LED or use your tv remote :) also converse uk you are a wankstain |

Monday, September 03, 2007 4:10:56 AM flashlights DO emit infra-red (as a by product of emitting visible light)coloured cellophane is used to stop some frequencies of light getting thru, and his setup is designed to stop all visible light getting thru presumably the red cellophane stops light of a shorter wavelength than red and the blue cellophane stops light of a longer wavelength of blue (which is why he uses less blue) |
