While we're at it, why does this system filter-out n*gger, but totally ignores Spic, Beaner, Kike, Wop, Dego, Greaseball, Nip, Gook, etc... Does buddy merely feel the first to be an infinitely uglier word, or again does he possess no control whatsoever over what this current system bypasses? |

Yeah, but I've even been admonished for bypassing the swear filter in the harmless context you exemplify, so it doesn't seem to matter.I'm not so sure it's an issue of Buddy being pressed to spend more money on a better filtration system (much less petitioning support from viewers like us), it's just a matter of stylistic choice I guess, unless buddy has NO control over what the system he currently runs accepts or rejects as appropriate language. For instance: I don't see much of an obscenity difference between dickless and, say, co*kless, and both of these prefixes have valid applications elsewhere (such as dick being short for "Richard," and that for the latter which we've already discussed), as opposed to the big two (the respective f and s words)... So what's the distinction he's drawing here? I just don't get it, and its tedious nature causes frustration to accumulate on the part of his users over the long term. |

He wasn't using as c*cktail, c*ckroach, etc. This isn't a british run board so there's no point in really pointing that out except for fun.The reason that we have the swear filter is so the site stays pg13 and Buddy doesn't have to pay for a more expensive server and the 13-17 year olds don't have to get kicked off. If it matters that much to you, please by all means visit the suggestion forum and/or PM buddy. I'm sure he'll be open to the offer of your payment of the server. |

Hey Silver - he wasn't going AROUND the swear-filter if his intent in using the word wasn't obscene! The word at hand has alternate meanings, you know, and in fact serves as the prefix for the very word USED BY BUDDY in describing this link - yes, it is part of an actual insect's name.Imagine if this was a British-run board, and we decided to put the word 'bloody' on the list of banned vocabulary, for its potential obscenity usage (bloody is equivalent to 'f*cking' over there); then, in trying to describe the scene of a massacre, the word was electronically altered into the nu-speak of that particular website, and the user was threatened with expulsion. That's pretty much exactly what you're doing here. |
