Meh, what does that tell us? They got the wrong theory. So what? Find a new one, that's science.

I wonder why they always have to use such childish presentations. Then again it must be like trying to explain IT to management: fall back into kindegarten speech ;)

What's this? A science-related link with a 4.0 score as of the time of this posting? Can this possibly be a reflection of what people would like to see more of?

Who's to say that "What the Bleep do we know?" isn't correct SPrinkZ?

You gotta be open to everything even if it seems weird to you, it just might be right.

TheBuzzer, they already have them, and the data rate isnt split between programs/commands, what have you, i cant think of the word. But its not conventional and never will be.

If you want to learn anything about Quantum Mechanics, then do not look at "What the Bleep do we know?" It's pseudoscientific, new-age mysticism. It has nothing to do with science, and never will. If you really want to learn about it, check for a small program they did on BBC.

"your subconscious created" to finish that last one.

^for the above it would help if you were willing to accept that everything in the world is connected "and one" as well as the ability to manipulate the world/energy you are connected to.

2) As far as God goes (assume you believe) who's to say he didn't "think" us into existence then allow us infinite electrons to create our own environment and settings as per His allowance to us of ultimate free will. (If you don't believe, don't argue, it's a theory not a religious rant).
2b) we have advanced because we have grown in our ability to create and manipulate the electrons.

Well as far as an explanation goes I think a lot of you have hit on really good points.

Here's one
1) Electrons must 'materialize' because we (eyes and brains) cannot comprehend something being in more than one form.
1b) This however, leads to another conclusion that can be drawn (if you believe in this kind of stuff) That we actually control our environment with our consciousness. So things exist, because you believe they do, and not just that you do, but the popular opinion agrees that you actually are seeing what you're seeing.
Perhaps you've seen something differently than another person and then you've disagreed, that could possibly be your mind constructing something to your own personal view. Which happens often when someone (2 people) observes something completely objective.
1c) Also have your eyes ever "played tricks on you" who's to say that in your peripheral or even frontal vision your mind didn't construct the electrons to match something your sub

I wont belive this unless i see it with my own eyes done in real life and not thru some animation.

cant wait for quantam computers suppose to calculate faster than current comps.

You can try this experiment yourself by setting up the same thing in a total darkness room but instead of the electron firing machine you use a neon light the length of the back wall and the same distance from the centre panel. This will fire photons at the wall from every single possiblity on that x axis. This is the same experiment but with photons. To see what's going on remove the uv converting coat and paint the back wall with uv paint. When the light is flicked on the areas that develop faster are the white areas. Because quantam physics does not apply to photons the experiment can be observed easier.

wouldn't measuring it, with a mechanical device, cause some kind of frequency of its own, wouldn't that distort the way they travel..

And at the movie, it's interesting, but weird. how did they 'observe' something with the speed of light anyway? Would be fun they actually tried this in a CAT-scanner and go like 'OMG now it's making round patterns! we do not understand! D:' ... uh well, assuming electrons are attracted to magnets..

At first it seemed confusing because they didn't actually fire them at random. The whole splitting thing was also a bit advised. Anybody who has seen that enron movie knows that people can believe almost anything and not perform their own research if told by somone else. This can even apply to other scientists.

I just assume their calculations or understanding of the event is screwed up somehow that has nothing to do with whether it's observed or not. Rather than believing that the universe doesn't make sense, I prefer to assume we're just wrong.
String theory is more mind-blowing than this though.

This is pretty cool. I don't really see how this helps anyone in any practical way, but this is cool.

this is some crazy stuff and according to pakmenu above... the electrons had to materialize when observed. So why does the electrons know that they had to materialize.. and what if they dont? someone explain

"So according to this, if a tree falls in the forest, and nothing is around to hear it. It can do whatever the hell it wants because no one is watching.
This proves god doesnt exist, unless he's some sort of exception to this law.

Oh my gosh, calm the f*ck down, kid... anywho, I've seen a video of the double slit experiment somewhere else, but they never talked about waht happens when the particle is being observed... way cool!

Well, this subject interested me when i was a kid in school, and i found 'the' solution in coupling it with the relativity theory: when an object moves at the speed of light though space, in fact time stands still for that object. Thus: electrons and fotons and whatwhat who travel at the speed of light are CREATED and DISSIPATED (at arrival) at the very exact same moment. the distance between the points they do gives for us a sense of difference in time of departure/arrival, as for us mere mortals it DOES take time to travel between two points. The particle when Emitted becomes a wave form which will ripple though the objects surrounding it, until it finds the most suitable and energy friendliest place to Materialize again.
What the movie does not say, is that other than an 'Eye' or a camera wich receives fotons, to detect electrons, they actually have to materialize while passing though the slit, and so instead of 1 journey from emittance to collision (on the schreen) it partakes 2

Isn't there a better way to display this experiment than animation? It's so easy to fake things in animation :| Not saying this is fake, but it doesn't exactly prove anything...
