Oh I don't know. It's kind of hard to find any form of written or oral history that doesn't have bias in it from those who wrote it/tell it. That's all history is. The facts as the people who won want to tell them. Religious or otherwise. So I wouldn't count -that- as a reason against the bible anymore than any other book that discusses history.

horn4231: "I have already prayed for you individually, as well as many others from this site."

Say horn-meister, couldja ask The Big Cheese to get rid of this eczema on my ankle?? Or maybe it's psoriasis, I'm not sure, but it itches and it's making me NUTS!!!! Many thanks!

Hey, if you're gonna pray, may as well pray for something helpful.

Oh, I've totally stopped taking this discussion seriously.

NeurolRu is very right. Indoctrination is not the best method for children to understand the world around them; it certainly does nothing to educate them or encourage them to think independently. To illustrate, here is a quote from H. P. Lovecraft:

"If religion were true, its followers would not try to bludgeon their young into an artificial conformity; but would merely insist on their unbending quest for truth."

Thank you for your compliments, NeurolRu. Maybe not marriage, but I'd definitely consider adding you to my buddy list. ; )

Overmann, will you marry me? Because you just put everything I've been thinking as I read this more eloquently than I ever could have.

To those of you who were exposed to religion from a young age... I encourage you to explore. Children are highly impressionable and teaching a young person religion is tantamount to brainwashing. Imagine if you were raised Buddhist or Muslim or Pagan, or any religion other than your current one, from the time you could first comprehend language. I guarantee that is the religion you would believe now, and other religions would seem ludicrous to you. If upbringing is the primary reason for your beliefs, maybe it is time to look beyond what you're comfortable with, because under other circumstances, things could be completely different.

horn4231, if people are asking you to stop praying for them, it is common courtesy to follow their request. To suggest that these people are not comfortable in their godless way of living and would appreciate any attempt to sway them from their lifestyle is ignorant and condescending. Of course you cannot hope to expect atheists to respect your beliefs if you do not respect theirs in turn. If indeed you are praying for me, I am asking you kindly to stop. I imagine envyrain would appreciate the same.

Okay. Let me make a point here. God "supposedly" created the universe in 7 days. But what is a day? A day is the period of time it takes for Earth to revolve around the sun. How can days exist when Earth and the Sun didn't even exist? I rest my case.

oh, and envyrain - i really don't mean to insult you in any way by telling you that I am praying for you - i really don't. I'm just saying that so you know that I care about you.

"Different men wrote the bible over thousands of years. Yet they all seem to come together and make sense."

excellent point. thank you.

"And I truly doubt that ANY of you are actually going to pray for an atheist. You have better things to do, trust me. You could be contributing to the community, helping out a friend, volunteering someplace, fighting for a cause to help the world"

I actually don't have better things to do. And yes, I have already prayed for you individually, as well as many others from this site. I tend to believe that trying to help someone find the Lord is a much greater cause than "helping out a friend"

....still praying :)

BrettIsPyro Said:So if I wrote 67 books explain that god doesnt exist wouldn't that mean he doesn't exist (just the impression you're giving me here)

Even if there r 66 books there are books called "fiction" meaning fake just cause you read it in a boook (or books in this case) doesnt mean it's true Take harry Potter for example you r going to have one hell of a time convincing HArry Potter is real and he can do everthing he does in those books

Different men wrote the bible over thousands of years. Yet they all seem to come together and make sense. Shouldn't that tell you something.

Nice, Pianowire! I can't do that. I would pull something. I don't care if any of you pray for me. I don't care if you try to empty the ocean with an eye dropper either. Knock yourself out.

Yay! I was praised by Overmann! :D

Maybe if everyone read my post, this wouldn't be going on still...
Oh, you lazy I-A-Bers. You dig your own graves.

Ohhh, and PLEASE stop saying that you're "praying for me". Do you realize that you're basically insulting an atheist when you say that? You're insulting their lack-of-faith by trying to tell them that you can use the magical powers of God to... well, just why are you praying for us anyway?

And I truly doubt that ANY of you are actually going to pray for an atheist. You have better things to do, trust me. You could be contributing to the community, helping out a friend, volunteering someplace, fighting for a cause to help the world (all things Atheists do as well, because we don't need a God to guide us in leaving a mark on the world) instead of wasting your time praying for an atheist. Because THAT's a lost cause. Do something better with your time, please.

Even eating a sandwich would get more accomplished.
