Reading through this thread, I noticed something interesting, and kind of startling. Obviously, the younger age groups (13-17) prefer Mencia to Cosby (in my opinion, a mistake), and the older groups prefer Cosby. The leading reason, I've noticed on the thread is "Mencia's delivery was way better than Cosby's!!!one!!!" It's distubring that the current generation finds people acting in a retarded manner funnier than a comedian who delivers in a clean, class-act way. Something appears to be wrong there. That's my two cents, anyway. |

I voted for Bush because I thought,
'Hey, there is NO WAY this guy is ever getting close to the white house again, so if I vote for him at least when the next guy f*cks up I can say it's not my fault.'
Time makes fools of us all. So the best I can figure is he became president by people like-minded to myself attempting to avoid future blame. The irony is almost delicious.But seriously, wtf does that have to do with anything, Mech? You're not even in the f*cking country, so how in the hell do you turn something about a thieving comedian against the president of a place that you have no involvement in? alot of you sit here and say "crusify carlos" the others say "we dont care if he stole he's funny" but the truth of the matter is he IS stealing. the difference between redoing a song or redoing a movie or redoing a joke or redoing anything is that everyone else has to get the original creators permision its called copyrite laws.carlos mencia is violating those laws by taking other peoples work and putting his name on it without asking permision. this is illigle. he has been called out by more comedians then joe rogan as well, george lopez who actually is of mexican decent has filed a lawsuit against mencia (or holness if you will) for stealing over 18 minutes of his material. but it really comes down to how youd feel if you worked hard on a work of art, you busted your ass off, used the creative genious you were born with to create this wonderful thing and in one swift moment someone else grabs it from you switches a few things around and puts his name on |

So you're saying that since you find his way of telling the joke (in a retarded way) funnier, then obviously it's ok for him to do that without crediting the origin of the joke.Well when (IF)you ever get to college , plagiarize a paper, and just change the "where" of it instead of New York it was Chicago, and make it "WAY FUNNIER" and I'm sure your prof. will understand completely. |

This is Bull S@#T!!! What about all the other "bigtime" comics who bite off of other comics? Some one should do a comparison for Jaime Fox and "The Great" Richard Pryor. Jaime totally copied his "going to Africa" bit from one of the greatest comics that ever lived. No one said a thing about that...right? |

Kudos Harskd. Cosby, Pryor, and many others were before my time, but yet I still recognize their importance. Not everything has to be new or remade, most times the classics are good just as they are. And there is a big difference between remaking a movie or covering a song and stealing a joke. They're compensated for whatever is taken because their work is copyrighted. It's not the same for up and comming comics. If someone steals their joke then oh well it's gone. That's basically money out of their pocket. Why should they have to come up with new stuff because someone like Carlos Mencia steals their stuff and gets the rewards? |

there's a learning curve here. like the one guy said, teens don't know as much comedy, so they laugh at what they're given. older folks have seen more comedy, and recognize the rip-offs. 1. thank you IAB community, for recognizing that mencia is a hack 2. cover songs are just that, and everybody knows. what mencia does is misleading. 3. comedy is an art in which inovation is constant 4. mitch hedburg, steven wright, bill cosby, bill hicks, richard pryor, eddie izzard, jerry seinfeld, red fox, chris rock, these are inovators and original minds (and just a few at that) so some research. defend comedy. |

OK LISTEN UP HERE.The reason we're all pointing out when mencia steals and not other comedians is because there's already been a big controversy over it.He's acting like he wrote all his material.I watched his show a few times, gave him a chance..sitting there and making every stereotypical and racist joke you can is not funny.it's just really,really annoying because after hearing 20 jokes about mexican people crammed into 5 minutes is just stupid after a while.Let's not forget his real name is NED. |

I agree with you on your second comment blues.The issue is he used the same base and just changed some words around, still defines it as a plagiarized statement. The other examples of jokes he stole are more "concrete" check out the youtube link someone left on here somewhere. |
