I thought that was very very funny. Usually I hate MadTV but this was pretty clever.This 'liberal' media that only shows that faults of the war is also the same 'liberal' media that told us the Iraqis were untamed people prior to the war. They are human beings as well. Why can't the US just treat them with respect. "I received information that there were lots of guns in your house and that you were maybe going to use them... I broke into your house to confiscate these weapons yet found none... while I was there I decide that you have been living your life completely wrong so I, take it upon my humble self, to teach you and rebuild you to be a 'good' person like me. I'm not going to leave your house untill you are as moral as me." Wouldn't you hate me as well? |

I wasn't actually defending you, splurby; I disagreed with almost everything you said. I just hate seeing people mistake passionate with emotional, and argument with quarrel. There is a plethora of great and completely valid arguments on the internet that are ignored because the entry has poor spelling and grammar, or bashes an opposing viewpoint. |

It's too bad we all can't get along. It would be nice if everyone with an opinion would realise that you'll never change your opponent's mind.That said, I say we place the blame for the current world situation where it belongs: on the government, the military-industrial complex, the media, the modern school system, and people who are too stupid to notice they are being brainwashed. Thanks a lot you morons. The minute you believe something told to you by someone in power is the minute you lose all right to bitch about the state of the world. So shuddup. |

Yup, Bush jokes are pretty much cliche these days.Also, the easiest way to not take things personal from anyones post is to not add inflection to what you read. Malestrom, thanks for defending me but I really don't want people to fight over things that have no solution. We can all debate until we are blue in the face, but why can't we just debate to learn? Not play king of the hill and try to be on top. We can leave the smearing to the idiots (both Dems and Reps) running for President. |

Non-binding resolutions? Sounds to me like they are giving Bush just enough rope to hang himself. If the war fails, the Dems "told him so". If the war finishes successfully, then the Dems "were the focal turning point". This is a political war. They'll let the war continue so that hate propaganda will push out more voters. |

People are dying over in Iraq to protect the Iraqi people, as well as us in some respects, and for what? So your freedom to make fun of it is protected? Yes, why don't we all just sit around laughing at "chimp" or "shrub" with our thumbs up our asses and slow bleed the troops. We can sit around and revel in the idea that there are no WMDs instead of actually doing something to win the war and bring the troops home AFTER Iraq is stable. I also hope you will be pleased when Iran obtains nuclear weapons, despite "peaceful diplomacy" (i.e. limpdick political sanctions that are never even carried out) failing miserably. When major Western cities get nuked, I hope that all this Defeatocrat "humor" will give you a chuckle. |

First, NyQ, I would suggest you just stop talking because you have not made a valid point yet, and you're clearly just trying to tear down splurby. Second, I am not a disciple of the liberal media since the only news related sources I frequent are NPR and the Daily Show. I'm actually confused at how you perceive the media as "liberal". Most of it is very conservative, if it doesn't just report on the newest celebrity death/scandal.
With that aside... It's pure fact that we erroneously invaded Iraq, but that doesn't matter anymore. We can't change that. What matters is that we're still in Iraq, years after we announced "Mission Accomplished". I understand completely that simply leaving Iraq would be a bad idea. The problem is that there's no foreseeable point in the near OR distant future when US troops will ever leave. This leads people to draw connections to Vietnam and hope that the government can learn from the mistakes of the past before 30 years of con |

You are absolutely right NyQ, I abused the term "Liberal". I should not have done that. The truth of the matter, labels are self-defeating. To hold allegiance to one group I just may shun another for their belief structure which further brings me closer to being a fanatic. My main point in all this debating is simply that we should not retreat no matter the reason we went there in the first place. However, I disagree with you on the whole idea that I am just another sheep. I have a Sergeant Major right now that is a complete Republican lunatic. Which tells me you cannot debate with the man without him getting emmotional about it and taking it personal. I call that unteachable. BTW Orson Scott Card has a new book titled EMPIRE. It covers a lot of this stuff and is a simple and good read. |

However, the overall debate of why we ended up there is absolutely relevant today. The people who authorized the use of military force continue in office. Wouldn't you like to know what your congressperson knew when they authorized Bush to commit our military? It's called accountability. NYQ, you are one of "those people" and I think you just love to hear yourself. "in the first place" doesn't really matter any more because we are there now. That debate is useless now. Your're right. we should have never gone blah, blah blah. Lots of Muslims like us very much and appreciate what we do. Most are afraid. Its the few loony, loud, extremists that really hate us. Those people will stand up one day and say enough, and the extremists will be stamped out.
