"Nothing besides light can travel light speed."

Light is an electromagnetic wave that happens to be visible to us. There are plenty of other such waves that travel just as fast but the speed of light seems to be the limit.

It's been theorised that there are plenty of particles that travel faster than light but they can't go slower. In that case, light speed isn't so much a speed limit as a barrier between the fast lane and the slow lane.

I think we can all agree that whatever the outcome(OR OUTCAME?!?) of his experiments, time will be broken. And some diety will smite him for his roosteriness. "Mess with my time again, jackass. I'll not let you forget to remember that this may or may not have happened sometime in the past, present or future ever again, and on the off chance that i am wrong your penis(or lack of) will disappear!", said the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

BUT if he went back in time (which is always going to be impossible anyway but lets say he did) then saved his dad, he wouldn't exist in that time anymore and would die because if his dad was alive then he would never need to build a time machine in the first place.

=waste of time and effort.

Why hasn't anyone said the obvious? If he succeeds at time travel he would already know because he would have sent himself information from the future on how to actually build the time machine. He wouldn't be wasting all this time thinking up formulas and such.

I love the way they cite Einstein, then go on to say 'we've known for a long time that time travel is possible'. Which contradicts what Einstein believed himself, if I'm not mistaken.

Even if we can travel through time, we can't change it - unless you change it off its course and TO what we know as history.

But a piece of paper is still three-dimensional.. /shrug, I get what he's talking about but its not going to work.

I've heard something like that worldline theory before. In fact, it was so obvious I kinda figured it out beforehand. Because changing the past changes the probabilities of certain things, you head down a slightly different route which ends up being drastically different over time.

It's like that quantum theory that states that every single possible outcome happens in a different universe. Which means that if you go back and change something, you can't get back to the same future that you came from, because you'd basically be in the wrong universe, as that never happened in your original one. Meh, it's confusing...but the bottom line is that they won't be able to do it.

Time travel into the past is impossible, but you can "time travel" into the future if you were to reach a speed close to that of the speed of light. (Nothing besides light can travel light speed.)

It's already happened: JOHN TITOR

OK, so it was an elaborate hoax, but fun to read. This guy had photos of his time machine, photos of bent lasers beams, on and on.

But the theory of "worldlines" is fascinating. It eliminates paradoxes usually associated with time travel. I'm not a physicist, so i may sound like an idiot, but whatever. read about it. it's cool.

Hasn't he read enough science-fiction? He can't go back and save his father! It'll mess up the space-time continuum! Read The Time Machine, or watch the movie. It'll explain it.

ScrtNinja said: "so how exactly are they going to test that a subatomic particle is now in the past? "

I wondered the same thing. The only way I can think of is to watch their rotating time vortex ( or whatever it is) and see if anything unusual shows up. But, how will they know what it is they're looking for? I suppose they could decide now what particle they are going to try to send in the future and look for that. Then again, if they're watching for something to show up, who is going to send it? Very confusing.

Unless they are forbidden to use in the future, Weh_Pooh. But they don't have to because the terminator is coming here and kill this guy! whoot? Or... this guy dies before he invents it, and the people who continue this project will be slain by a robot.

Nah seriously, I find this pretty interesting. It goes beyond my logic, but he explains that with a paperclip, so who am I to say this isn't gonna work :P And most of the comments above are useless, kthnx.

Never gonna happpen... If we could build a time machine, I think we would've already traveled back in time, so WE would know because the people of the future would be here.

THESE PEOPLE ARE SO STUPID!!!! SURE THEY HAVE SMARTS BUT WHEN IT COMES TO COMMON SENSE THEY HAVE NONE!!!! TIME IS SUCH A COMPLEX THING TO MESS WITH. IF THEY DO MANAGE TO TIME TRAVEL IT WILL NO DOUBTEDLY COME BACK AND BITE US IN THE ASS!!! IT ONLY TAKES ONCE! ONE SCREW UP AND TIME WILL BE MESSED UP FOREVER. *calming down now* If we do somehow manage to time travel, the only reason to do it, would be to observe. We should NOT... I repeat, NOT... CHANGE ANYTHING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!

I half-expected him to outline his equations and the schematics of his machine, but I suppose the show felt the audience was too low-brow to understand any of it. Maybe he has a website or some articles?

Time is a measurement of motion. Its very simple to go back in time. All you have to do is to reverse the exact motion of every single particle in this (universe including yourself)and you'll be back in time.

"if it does happen we're all gonna be dead by then anyway" We'll be alive in "2007" so people in "3007" (or whenever) could come back and see us alive. So would we really be dead?

If RUKidding's logic holds any water, he was closer back then than he is now. Which really only creates another time paradox, if you think about it. drat maybe he succeeded back then but found out what he is doing now will just create a huge asplosion that will knock the earth off its orbit and kill everyone, and disgusted, came back to stop himself. But right as he was about not do the thing he is doing now, someone was rude to him and his already fragile psyche was shattered and now he is just a raving, world demolishing lunatic, minus the raving part. Or plus it. makes the whole story more interesting i think.
