Tuesday, January 16, 2007 7:44:53 PM amazing no doubt, but in my own personal, VERY personal opinion I don't consider it art; and I know that it takes some serious skills, and that I have absolutely no talent; so my respects for the guy, but not my style |

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 6:09:46 PM "Sense of depth? Some objects appear closer to the canvas than others. Color? Space is black as it should be, and the planet's surface's color is entirely left up to the artist's imagination (glad it's not brown or green, as Earth). Contrast? The brightness of the comet and light of the coronas fade into space. Value? Tell me, how are you making that judgment? And subtlety? One can only be so subtle with 1. fantasy\space and 2. spray paint."THANK YOU |

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 6:08:03 PM "Actually i did do something like that. Ricardo the man that made that painting for me has taught me how to do that. I have sold many. And i can make something like that in like 5 minutes. Again, its not that hard and i'm pretty sure even a person with your intelligence would be able to make something like this."But the way you stated that a mexican with one arm taught you to do this made that man sound like a retard. yes, many people probably do this, but dont make him sound like he is a loser because everyone else can do this. its just a hobby |

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 3:50:32 PM "if you've even heard of Mondrian you should know that the mere presence of some darks and lights does not mean one has sense of contrast..."Obviously I've heard of the man, otherwise I wouldn't have brought him up. "...and the presence of some color does not mean one has a sense of color." I didn't say that the presence of color means someone has a sense of color. Ever heard of color blindness? What I was implying is that he has enough sense to color objects appropriately. As far as the orange\redness, the color of far off planets is entirely left up to the imagination of the artist. At least he has a common color scheme, no? I'd say that constitutes a sense of color in itself. "But pick something you really appreciate." Art doesn't have to be classy in order to qualify as art. It may be cheap and expedient according to the other standards, but who am I to say it is not art? He painted a picture, is that not enough? |

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 1:53:00 PM I personally found the painting to be beautiful. A bit cliche, yes, but still beautiful. I'm not good at art (except Photoshop, which only counts as digital art.), but for something that took roughly 9 minutes, it was very pretty. Not a masterpiece, by any means, but this sort of thing is still rather neat. |

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 11:55:42 AM Overmann - if you've even heard of Mondrian you should know that the mere presence of some darks and lights does not mean one has sense of contrast, and the presence of some color does not mean one has a sense of color. By "value" I mean "brightness", not "worth".Skie_Lok: I'n not even an artist, let alone an art major. I don't mean to be elitist - there's a line between elitist and being passionate about something, and apparently I'm over the line. Sorry. But pick something you really appreciate. You like cars? This guy is the old honda civic tricked out with the v-tec sticker, 5 spoilers, and garish flame paint job. All flash, no style or substance. You like movies? This guy is Michael Bay: lots of frenetically moving things on fire or exploding in slow motion, no substance. You like music? Britney. You like food? Emeril. I just google searched spray paint art. There's way better stuff than this using the same medium. |

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 2:22:37 AM Wow, a lot of pretentious art majors out there apparently. This guy has created something all these nay-sayers could not duplicate, so what if he does it one time or a hundred times. Spray paint is a very difficult medium to use and I think he uses it immaculately. I don't care who you are or what your credentials are, coming on to I-A-B and trying to tell the world what art is, is just pathetic. |

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 1:35:43 AM "Painting essentially the same spacescape over and over again because every landscape is created by peeling off layers of paint with crumpled up paper: not art."One could attribute this to artistic style, DiePSPolice. I can doodle and draw cartoons, but they all look similar and some of the features are the same. Music artists, it can be argued, also have their own style. The methods of creating art play a lesser role in comparison to the finished product. Is a pot made only with one's hands considered more artistic than a pot made with a potter's wheel? No. If the artist in this video has to use a paper corner to properly paint the curve of a comet, what difference does it make to the finished product? And so what if the same technique is frequently used by other artists? It's a specific kind of art with its own techniques, just as I'm sure there exist such techniques in anime and fingerpainting. |
