Yeah I used to have AOL.. then my computer crashed and I didn't have money to fix it, so I tried to cancel AOL, because it wasn't in use but they were charging me for it still. It made my computer ridiculously slow, to begin with, and wouldn't allow me to get onto certain sites. I tried to cancel my account, and I was on the phone for 20 minutes with the employee, who was trying to convince me not to cancel. So FINALLY I got them to cancel my account, and they told me I needed a code of some sorts, I can't remember what it was for. The employee said the code quickly, then hung up, before I could catch it. So I ended up having to go through the whole process again just to get that code. I finally deactivated it.. so I thought. It turns out, they completely ignored my call, and they continued to send me bills.

This was entertaining. I'm glad someone has finally revealed AOL's evil plot to have everybody in the world as customers.

It's actually worse than this sometimes. I'm still trying to cancel after months. Next call I make I'm going to inform them that I refuse to use any of their services for the remainder of my existence. And then flip them the birdie. They won't be able to see it, but what the heck. I'll make me feel better. ^^;

I had problems like this with other comapnies. I had one drop the call and keep tranfering me to different people. Then I had to explain everything all over again. They think they can get away with this because they don't have to deal with you in person.

Ridiculous!
I don't feel bad for John... he was an officious prick.
I've had to "break up with" both Compuserve, a branch of AOL, and AOL itself. Both were insane. You would think they have enough customers not to worry about one of them leaving, but they really get nervous.
Everyone should go with DSL or cable. Definitely.

Heh, I work for Thrifty car rental. Yeah we do try to perswade you to book with us, but once you say no, we give up and take the next call.

The AOL person might be recieving a commission for how many calls he takes
