Thursday, May 11, 2006 5:59:47 PM Haha! That plane looks retarded! On a side note, I instantly know this was either a joke or some retard skewing words (that is something the media does best). You want to know what looks goofy? Wearing a towel wrapped around your head. |

Thursday, May 11, 2006 2:53:33 AM Actually, the military isn't above worrying about LCF (look cool factor). Generals tend to believe that when something looks right, it functions right. You look at the test trials for the Joint Strike Fighter. They need a new jet with vertical take off and landing capabilities to replace the dangerous, yet cool looking, Harrier jump jet. So they had Boeing and Lockheed Martin compete for it. Boeing came up with a model that, while looking like poo, functioned great. Lockheed Martin came up with a model that looked just like the Harrier… and had all the same problems as the Harrier. They went with Lockheed Martin. |

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 11:54:24 PM When soldiers complain about something being goofy, he's talking about movement, not looks. Looking cool isn't the military's top concern; they need to be able to move. Big armor doesn't help that. Depending on the soldier's position, it's no wonder they'd take a kevlar vest and helmet over that huge thing. Something being "goofy" is just as able to kill them as armor being too light is. |

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 10:15:14 PM Agreed. The headline was rather misleading.I can't believe this counts as news though. |

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 9:00:48 PM i think that was just something they said not-seriously. they kept talking about how the soldiers were COMPLAINING about how it made them look goofy, but in the end they admitted that they were really complaining about how it's hard to feel safe in that when you're in a non-explosive situation. |

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 5:40:37 PM "One soldier's visor stopped a piece of shrapnel that hit dead centre," he said. "If he had not had that suit on, the effects could have been catastrophic."It just may lower the rising numbers of death in our soldiers over there... Looking cool was never -that- worth it. |

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 9:30:15 AM Better safe than sorry, but like they said if they get in a small arms combat then their movement would be hindered, guess they still have some kinks to work out. |

Wednesday, May 10, 2006 8:48:55 AM I think they look pretty sweet. I would wear that to school. But... It might impair your vision and restrict movement, but I would guess that the majority of casualties don't occur when Humvee gunners are shot out of the top in exchanges of fire, so you probably need more protection from the bombs anyway. Humvees are so futile. Poorly protected with low firepower. This is why the British invented tanks. |
