Sunday, March 05, 2006 12:45:33 AM Yeah, I live a 1/2 hour from NYC and saw the news report on CBS. Yes it's real, and no, it's not photoshopped. I think it was a really great story. 2/3 of the players on the court probably couldn't make one 3-point shot, but he manages to make several in only a few minutes. I bet the coach is probably kicking himself right now. :)

Friday, March 03, 2006 9:53:18 PM Albeit, this is a nice story. I think it is a bit overvalued by how people are reacting. Not that it's not a heartwarming story, or a base level testament to the goodness in humanity, but I couldn't help but sense an underlying patrionization lingering with comments along the lines of "Wow, it's so good for one of those handicaped people to get a break" I feel that if more people would actually take the time to fully comprehend autism they would understand that what autistic people lack in logical thought is compensated for in other ,less praised, facets (ie deeper creativity, intuition and more right brain tendencies) than us "normal" people. This story ,in contrast, to a story I read about a woman with autism who uses it to communicate with animals and console them before they are about to be butchered so they can die with dignity seems less poignant. It seems for someone to fly into our self righteous radar, they must conform to our banal ideals. |

Thursday, March 02, 2006 12:54:47 AM This aired on the news a couple days ago in my state (Borders NY) They made it sound like he was "suited up" every game and never given a chance, in fact, I think they called the story "something Benchwarmer" |

Wednesday, March 01, 2006 10:05:49 PM My friend was just talking about this to me yesterday actually. He saw it on the news and just saw it for the first time here. It's awesome when people who are so used to being looked at sort of, differently get accepted so greatly like that for a whole stadium to raise him in the air. I don't care if people were blocking him, othe rpeople can play better, or no one else was even trying, he made 6 friggen 3 pointers in a row in a game to win it at the buzzer, after being the little 'coaches helper' for so long! |

Wednesday, March 01, 2006 4:05:51 PM "autistic kids suck ass"...dear jesus. have you no soul? please, keep those comments to yourself. if you knew what most autistic kids did with their lives. this isnt saying that hes a super dooper amazing basketball player who is better than you, its that he had a mental handicap that could have been life ruining but instead of letting it ruin his life, hes trying his hardest and overcoming it. why dont you guys stop being so hateful and maybe try being a little loveing? |

Wednesday, March 01, 2006 2:05:29 PM Eh...I didn't think that was autism. I also agree with a few statements about the caring of the other team, he looked pretty open at all times. Most playersd don't even get the ball enough to >TRY< 9 shots in four minutes... |
