Twist_13, you are being a jerk. I think if someone really needed it, I wouldn't be completely opposed to someone using my face (as long as I'm dead first and all that) but I do understand what Overmann's saying. And I don't think it's a good enough reason to not have face transplants at all if the parties are all willing, but he's not saying that, he's just saying why he, himself, is uncomfortable with it. And it's a valid reason, and true. It has nothing to do with vanity as he's already mentioned, and it has even less to do with twins which is completely off the topic.

What is the big deal? She has someone's face(Which probably doesn't look like the original)and she tried to kill herself. Well, better close the suicide ward- wouldn't want anyone to live...Didn't anyone consider the fact that maybe her life sucked? She was a druggie and wanted to die. How can we judge her? Are you perfect? Should we let all drug addicts die? It's quite sad...actually. Yes, she caused it herself in many ways but all of the stupid crap that hurts all of us is caused by ourselves, too. Should we all be cold about eachother's plites?

Just seems to me that no one has the right to say if she deserved it or not. It's done...someone lives while someone died. Why get into hysterics about it?

And WTF does her smoking have to do with anything? Are smokers less deserving? Hell, if my face had been eaten off by my dog- I wouldn't just be smoking cigarretes...I'd be chiefing.

And that's simply my opinion.

Sure, that's why this lady is getting all the attention right now. But what you're missing is that it's someone elses' face (whether that person is deceased or not) meaning this recipient is usurping a portion of that person's identity, at least physically.

Sometimes I wonder why my life is so pathetic that I have to stoop down to going on this website almost every hour. Then I wonder why I actually read these crazy articles. But most of all, I wonder why I read the comments, following the articles and games and weird stuff...? I mean, it is amusing but it's all the same every single time. It gets quite boring after a while, but for some reason, you can't stop reading till the very last freakin' comment. I really need to get a life.

I was waiting for one of you to bring up identical twins. My response is that identical twins are unique in their own right in that (can you guess?) they share their physical appearance. That's what sets them apart (at least physically) from everyone else. My uniqueness is my appearance (face) is shared by no one else. A twins' uniqueness is that they share their appearance with one other. I hope I explained that simply enough and further hope that you'll stop misinterpreting my opinion as vanity.

Edit: Are you suggesting we kill people because of their uniqueness, Twist_13? (Because, believe it or not, twins are unique.)

Well Overmann, we best start killing identical twins as well too. Would not one of those sneaky bastards out there looking like someone else.

Wow. I was pretty sure that after the procedure they said she wanted to remain anonymous . . . I'm surprised she changed her mind.

Twist_13, perhaps you misunderstood. When you think about it, the face is the most distinguishing physical characteristic about any average person. With it, you can recognize anyone for who they are at a glance. That is why it is important it remains unique to each individual. This has nothing to do with vanity.

It's not about who DESERVES it more. If we start judging on "Who deserves it and who doesn't" ... means we'll start making judgements on who we will save and who we will let die based on how nice a person they are rather than who needs the treatment more, or the quickest. It's not a decision we should be allowed to make. We help who we can, and we don't deny treatment to someone just because they are depressed.

That has to be one of the most vain things I have ever heard in my life. If your "face" is the most unique thing that you have, you as sorely missing out on life and the ability we have. Sheep to the slaughter...

While I'm impressed by the medical feat, I'm more curious about the dog. WTF Fido?! That's gratitude for you!
