most people cough*adults* just can't learn a new way to do things... I've seen tons of people use their blinkers on a roundabout, go thru the middle, go around it four times. I just like to take the three quarter turn as fast as possible without skidding of the road.

There are a few roundabouts in my area, and some of those things are dangerous! When you put a roundabout with 6 different high traffic roads coming into and out of it, things get crazy.

Otherwise, roundabouts do seem to be safer.

Americans may be dangerous at roundabouts due to lack of experience but i got hit by an American Tourist and what Americans would call an intersection over here in the UK so my conclusion is like over here a bad driver is a bad driver regardless of country.

"There are many roads in america that are just waaaaaay to busy for roundabouts/circles/ etc...It's normal for each american in a family (over 16) to have their own car (my imediate family alone has 5 cars and there's only 4 of us)...so every person of age driving on say a friday evening when everyone is out and about..traffic lights are much better for this...less confusion....now in less trafficked areas..roundabouts are great "

Round abouts help release congestion because there is always a constant flow of traffic...

--- I take it you've never been through a Washington DC traffic circle. There's about 4 lights ON the cirle, lights at every road that leads into the circle, the circle is actually *two* circles, divided by a median. They are horrendously designed, and I abhor driving through them because in order to get where you need to go you have to change at least three lanes. In rush hour, these are a nightmare. ---

Since when did roundabouts have traffic lights??? Must be there to stop americans pushing...

But think about it... No offence but alot of americans are arrogant pushy people who would make Round abouts pretty dangerous... In england we're abit better.. we have a thing called cueing and patience... and letting people who are before you go first!! instead of forcing your way in front of cars like alot americans do... Its the same in europe!!! french are the worse!! i just guess English people are more polite

"Though reduced speeds help explain roundabouts’ safety, other factors in their success are the elimination of left turns against oncoming traffic,"

So true, I almost got into an accident last night thinking I could make it over the intersection before a car I thought was off in the distance. And then there was a car that almost smashed into me. along with 4 way stops I feel its so much safer and way less scary for me . ( btw I am a newb driver )

My dad once went around a roundabout 5 times just because he felt like it.

I promptly got a headache.

"roundabouts are a hell of alot easier... no waiting at trafic lights, rarely any gridlock and so what if americans are too scared to drive on britains roads because of roundabouts it means safer driving for the rest of us. :-p"

I've never heard of them being called a "roundabout" before! Here, we call them "traffic circles".

There is a roundabout near my other home in Utah... it makes me happy every time i go through it. However, it is a little bit confusing.

Roundabouts rock...whatever you decide to call them.

I've lived in places that deployed both.

Roundabouts any day.

Hahaha that's what I think every time I go through a traffic circle! Here that's what they are called, not roundabouts.

I absolutely HATE roundabouts. HATE THEM TO DEATH. I'll take an intersection any day. Much less confusing.

There is one in my neighborhood and it can get a bit harry at times. The reason for this is because everybody wants to get through as fast as possible and not yield to the other traffic. I see people slowly creep out into the roundabout hoping the oncoming car will slow down and let them in or at least see them. So it's not like roundabouts are bad, it's just us crazy driving Americans can't find our damn brake long enough to actually use it.

Roundabouts are easy! i think the problem is that you have to queue and wait your turn, and that comes naturally for us.

I imagine roundabouts are dangerous if your not used to driving on them. I think it's more of an accepted part of the road network here in the UK. Although you should try the magic roundabout in Swindon, 5 mini-roundabouts around a large central roundabout. The transport planners and egineers that came up with that one should be shot.

Roundabouts are used for huge volumes of traffic in the UK, like at motorway junctions combined with under/overpasses, so I don't see the point they make with reagrds to suitability for certain volumes. The trouble is they can be a lot more expenisve than you'd think.

PS Farquaadhnch - most people in Europe drive on the irght, just 'lil old Britain and Ireland as far as I'm aware, you can blame Napoleon for everyone else driving on the worng side.
