I didn't even break $300 when I didn't count ROMs and legit music, but, since it says total duration of music, not pirated music and any video game, let's just say who needs to sell drugs to buy these things?

It completely ignores software applications that could cost more than anything else.

Just like gun control won't stop the use of guns, and prohibition in its day didn't stop alcohol. The cat's out of the bag and people will use it. Yes, authority might slow it down, but it wouldn't stop it because the underlying attitude is still there, and piracy would simply go to a different venue where it could be gotten away with. NO I'm not advocating biblical morals or conservativism. I don't actually know the answer to it. I wish I did, then I would be a rich woman and could afford prime rib, lol.

RinjiHalfElf, I would agree with what you said, but I don't think you're going deep enough. I don't think it's lack of authority on the net. Piracy took place long before the internet. Back in the 80s and 90s long before the internet was a household word, people pirated software and music by using floppy disks, casette tapes, and snail mail. I don't think that it's lack of authority, I think it's the 'me first' attitude that people have developed. Basically "screw you, I want what I want and I don't give a d**n about anyone else". How else can you explain the attitude that "they wouldn't have made any money off of me anyway so that makes my stealling it just fine". People are entitled to compensation for their hard work, but the me first attitude doesn't consider that. The ability to pirate is there so it's going to happen.

Katrina would be and example (the situation could be viewed as a creation of a mini culture). When the hurricane hit, we lost alot of authoirity down there, albeit temporary.

Some people did what they could to survive (in the intenet sense, download things like "ad-aware"), while others took advantage of the situation (piracy).

Things are only backwards until there is order.... or at least that's how I understand it... ^_^;;

Then sometimes it's still a** backwards.

6540, what can you expect?

The internet is relatively young from a cultural stand point. Of course there is going ot be boundless robbing and pillaging until some sort of strong authoritive order takes place. This have happened over and over in history.
But since the internet does not only involve the United States an authority for it is a long, long way off. Or at least until we have a form of government for the entire world. ^_^

I love the way people can spin something to make it seem they aren't doing anything wrong. "I can get it for free anyway by recording it off the radio." Ummm, then why don't you do that? Because you know as well as I do you want a clean copy of the song. "It's not worth much any more." But it was when it came out right? My favorite one here is "I wouldn't have bought it so they aren't out anything." Really? So stealing is okay if you don't want to buy the item, or if you don't think it's worth spending $ for?!?!? Then I guess I can go steal all the prime rib from my local grocery store, because I certainly couldn't afford to buy it. They're committing the true crime by overcharging me for it anyway right? This is all a load of crap and you know it. Theft is theft no matter how you choose to spin it to make it sound like it's not. The sad thing is that I'm going to hear how horrible I am for saying these things, and YOU all are the thieves... Wha

I have a ton of pirated music, movies, games, and software. Guess what… I never would have bought any of it if I couldn't have gotten it for free. So they aren’t out any money, because they never would have gotten any money from me.

I think trying to charge what they do for that kind of crap is the true crime here.
