I agree.
And I'm glad that this argument didn't degrade into a flame-war like it looked like it was about to.
And with that, I wish you good day.

i agree with the evil people bit, but i dont think theres enough people to stop them, most people seem to think someone else will stop them, i dont deny saddam wasn't the best person in the world, and with all the re-building going on iraq will be more prosperous, as a lot of it is contracted to american companies that know what theyr doing, its not a slap dash job. it will get better, but as the resistance is eroded by american military superiority it will get more desperate, so i think it will get worse first. i dont think its a conspiracy, but i do believe it is neccessary to always question the motives of the most powerful people (i guess that is kinda paranoid!).. i think we've exhausted the argument now tho, it is down to what we as individuals choose to believe, i dont suppose either of us are 100% right or wrong

Well, you can call me ignorant, and I can call you paranoid, but it just seems like our difference lies in who and what we each choose to believe.
I believe that there are evil, opportunistic people in every walk of life.
However, I also believe that the basic good in people will win out. I don't believe that this is a huge conspiracy by businessmen to americanize the middle east.
I don't believe the American public and the world public would let something like that happen.
Moreover, I don't think it *could* happen.
Over 70% of the people of Iraq, in a recent poll, said that they are more prosperous now than they were under Saddam. That's a good thing. They are voting. That's a good thing. And it can only get better.
Bush didn't declare victory, he declared the end of military operations against Saddam's government.

if u give a gun to anyone your an idiot, and if he turns it on you your a bigger one.. bush wasnt planning for it to take so long, he declared victory over 1000 days ago (it was in the paper the other day), he didnt realise it wud take so long, but he's not stupid, he's got to go another two years an then it's someone elses problem. and it isn't just a bush plan, an americanisation of the middle east would help a lot of your businessmen, who will still be lurking around the white house in two years

The problem with the idea that bush has a long-term plan to march through the middle east taking over countries has one logistical flaw. In America, presidents have a term limit. His term is done in two more years.
Also, we gave military capacity to Saddam with the understanding that he wouldn't be a dick. He became a dick.
It's like if you gave your kid a bb gun for Christmas, and told him not to shoot animals with it. Then he shoots a bird. Shouldn't the kid still be held mostly accountable, even though you were the one that gave him the gun?

i really hope that wasn't directed at me - why else would america want to invade iraq? to get rid of saddam? thinking back, i wonder how he got his military capability..

im not islamic, im roman catholic, and the resistance in iraq does contain iraqi citizens, the war isnt about iraq, its about america establishing a base in the middle east from which it can bring 'freedom' to other countries there (and oil, but that goes without saying) and as such many men and women from different nations will be represented in the resistance, as they know theyr country will be next, and they believe that bushs plans for the middle east need to be stopped before he can truly begin

Oh, I don't know. I guess I was mistakenly assuming that since you support the insurgents, that you subsribe to some sort of Islamic Extremism. That's not a slam or an insult - it was an assumption on my part, and if it's not true, I apologize.
I never said anything about baby-eaters. I just maintain (and this is obviously our main point of contention) is that the insurgency in Iraq is NOT made up of Iraqi citizens defending themselves against foreign aggression. This is not a guerilla movement, its a foreign insurgency married to an underground disgruntled minority. If it truly was a supported national defence movement, why wouldn't some of the leaders run for office? Why would they be so shadowy and secretive?
The majority of Iraqis are pissed at them for killing civilians. And rightly so.

It's also why the majority of the population is voting.
Do you hate Jews, by any chance - or is it just America?

don't compliment yourself kid, you don't think for yourself, i have plenty of faith in the Iraqi people thinking for themselves - thats why a section of the population is trying to evict a foreign army.. after eating babies obviously

And by "Iraqi people," I mean the actual citizens of Iraq. Not foreign fighters with an agenda of their own (i.e. Islamic extremism)

The bottom line is that I DO think for myself. I don't need religion to tell my who's bad and who isn't. All of the insurgents are doing what they're doing because somebody tells them that God wants them to. That America is evil. That the foreign influenced police force needs to "be removed" as you put it.
It's sad that you don't put much faith in the Iraqi people being able to think for THEMselves.

tell me if this sounds really stupid...
we can assure you we never transport suspected terrorists to third world countries to be held and tortured, but dont outlaw it because even though we have NEVER done such a thing we want it to be legal.

ironic that actually your the one thats right.. wing that is..
of course I presumed you knew what ACTUALLY happens in Iraq, not what your told, surely your old enough to think for yourself by now? but i'm just going to leave you in your little world where america is the nice friendly policeman who helps the poor coutries find democracy, and saves the world from evil men with beards and long names that eat children.

Of course you're right. I knew you were right as soon as you mentioned that the U.S. is using napalm on children. You're obviously very well informed.
