Friday, December 30, 2005 7:14:11 PM Some people are looking at the paintings and thinking "Oh, my toddler could do that; therefore it's not REALLY art." Well, I've played one of Bach's minuets. Does that mean it isn't art anymore? I don't think it's about whether or not you or your three-year-old is capable of drawing/painting something similar as much as it's about the artist expressing themselves and leaving some kind of impression on the viewer. Appearantly, they've done their job there because look--you're talking about it. Obviously different people are going to see it different ways and have different opinions about it. Some will like it while others won't. I, for one, don't particularly care for most of those paintings, but hey, that's just MY opinion. |

Monday, December 05, 2005 10:03:29 PM I agree, it doesn't take talent to create on of those but someone please define the word "art." Is it not ones expression of how they feel or how they see things? Leave them alone. |

Tuesday, November 29, 2005 5:13:05 PM Pablo Picasso said it best: "All art is magic." I think what gets people so upset about "modern art" is the initial simplicity of it. You could put this thinking to just about anything- a song, a book, an invention. What do people usually say? "Well, I could of done that!" But, see, you didn't....Yes, some of the art can be almost ridicolous at times, like the "artist", who encased an visiably rotting, decomposing shark in formaldehyde and sold it for a million dollars. Art should be created from the heart and the soul, but Andy Warhol once said that; "Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art". |

Tuesday, November 29, 2005 3:30:47 PM That may not be art, but the guys who made and sold it definately are artists.. It takes a good conman to call crap gold and get away with it and make a profit, and i think we can agree a good con is art. |

Tuesday, November 29, 2005 9:56:43 AM I agree about places like the Tate Modern. Some modern and contemporary art is enjoyable, but when it's stuff like a huge canvas with a blue circle at the bottom left corner and it sells for thousands, I dont like that. But the modern art I detest is the stuff like in Tate Modern, ie a pile of bricks with a fried egg on top, and people stand around discussing the meaning in it, its stupid. One piece of "art" in London was a clear bag containing garbage, resting against the leg of an empty table... the cleaning woman threw the bag away (true story), but the artist said he could "recreate" it. I miss real Art. |

Monday, November 28, 2005 9:32:31 PM He doesn't just "kind of" have a point, he's right on the money. Modern art is such retarded BS. Try heading to Tate Modern to waste an afternoon after touring Europe's "other" galleries like oh, the Louvre, and see what kind of sense of wonder (read: nausea) it fills you with. Classic artists had magnificent talent. "Modern" art is a retard-fest.Oh and if you do decide to take my advice, you can leave Tate Modern as soon as you see the big spider thingie in the "lobby". You won't miss anything. It's the coolest thing in that hole. |

Monday, November 28, 2005 6:48:46 PM ^ Rock and roll isn't popular where I liveso she'd be popular with 15 kids in my town. But we're not dumb enough to say Sh*tney is rock. And I would have to know the stories behind the art to "get it". |

Monday, November 28, 2005 5:29:28 PM Understanding modern art, mean you have to understand the fundamentals of art and design themselves. If you don't know or you don't understand that then yes, you will say that it is crap. |

Monday, November 28, 2005 3:36:07 PM On 'Souzon'"I like to think it represents the artist shining brightly upon his audience, inviting their praise and admiration, whilst stealing the light from those that pay for his overly-pretentious musings therefore funding his existance and promoting the growth of his art further and further up his own arse. Dragging his audience along with him, letting them bask in the warmth of his fame and wonder at the size of the price tag, forever deflecting them away from the fact that the actual piece of art is actually a piece of s***." i couldn't agree more |
