I'm in an industry that's been around since biblical times in the business that I run has over 100 years of trading. Procedures, hardware, technology and security remain almost unchanged. I had no idea 10 years ago that I'd be doing it or how it's best run. It pays better than investment banking and requires no education.

... and no, it has nothing to do with sex.

Well, as a former tape recorder technician, dial telephone installer, videotape rental manager, and bumper chromer, I'm open to a new career.

The Golgafrinchan are a race of beings who realized that there were three types of beings on the planet of Golgafrincham. Thinkers, Workers, and the strange Middle Class.

The middle class comprised of hair dressers, lawyers, telephone sanitizers, and other such "worthless jobs."

The Thinkers built a ship and told the third class that the planet was to be consumed by a "giant space goat." So they built a ship and sent off their third class. Telling them that they would follow soon. The Third class ended up on earth, "mucking up the program to determine the ultimate question." While the rest of the classes were killed off by a raging disease contracted from public telephones. Golgafrincham soon after was consumed by a giant space goat.

I rest my case.

Fwoggie2-but fossil fuel isn't gonna last forever

Never claimed it would, and my post was not about fossil fuel.

Fwoggie2-
temperatures are definitely up

Haven't been paying attention, have we?

Fwoggie2-
Maybe 3 category 5 hurricanes in a row perhaps

Oh, you mean that increase in frequency and intensity of hurricanes we were promised...10 freakin years ago? You DO realize that that particular 'prediction' (like many of the 'predictions' made by AGW alarmist) turned out to be so much bull, right?

Take it from someone who's lived through Camille, Frederick, Ivan, Katrina and every other hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast in the last 47 years...I'm loving the current hurricane trend.

MeGrendel, you laugh now, but fossil fuel isn't gonna last forever, and temperatures are definitely up, and for sure Carbon ain't helping matters.

I wonder what it'll take for the majority in the US to be won over with the argument. Maybe 3 category 5 hurricanes in a row perhaps.

Did anyone notice that none of these jobs -- with the possible exception of the pilot, which is a job we have today -- produces anything of tangible value?

How to prepare for the jobs of the future? Simple. It's just like jobs these days:

Have a lot of luck and know the right people.

Quite right: typical mistake of viewing the future through trends and fads of today.

The first 2 are good ways to waste your life. If you're going to have a job dealing with imaginary things, stick to unicorns and fairies rather than "global warming" and "sustainability". They're a lot more fun and have a lot closer resemblance to reality.
