Just remember the spine like you would times of the day.
Cervical= You eat breakfast at 7am
Thorasic= You eat lunch at 12pm
Lumbar= You eat supper at 5pm
Its not perfect and is up for interpretation, but that's how I learned how many vertebra in each section.

@rob,
T10,11,12 are the bottom of the Thoracic spine (I left out 12 by accident) then, going lower, are the Lumbar vertebrae which end at #5, just above the Sacrum and Coccyx (the "tail bone"). Looked to me like he hit farther than halfway down his back.
