Teen Suspended For Asking Miss America To Prom

In this Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, file photo, Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri attends the NCAA college basketball game between Syracuse and North Carolina State in Syracuse, N.Y.

Eighteen-year-old Patrick Farves said he received three days of in-school suspension Thursday because he asked Nina Davuluri to prom. The senior at Central York High School stood up and popped the prom question, then walked to the stage with a plastic flower. Davuluri just laughed and the students cheered. School officials heard about Farves' plan in advance and warned him not to do it. He has apologized for disrupting the event. The school says students are disciplined for breaking rules and this incident is no different. Davuluri was at the school to talk with students about diversity and the importance of science, technology, engineering and math studies.

"Why did the kid tell the administration he was going to do this so they could tell him not to? He should have been suspended for being an idiot."

The story didn't say HE told them. Most likely he told friends who told other friends who told other friends, etc., and eventually the administration caught wind of the rumor.

Same thing. He`s still an idiot.

A couple of observations

He shouldn't have used a plastic flower unless he was going to make a point of telling her he was saving a real flower for Miss World.

He was told not to do it, he decided that doing it would be worth it anyway. Fair play...I think he made the right decision on the whole. Now though he should do the punishment without whining about it.

@rob
I don't think it`s an age issue. I applaud this kid. He is now a legend!

I don`t think he was suspended for asking her to prom. I don`t think he was suspended for disrupting the event (decorum, proper conduct, and respect ...or whatever Piratefish was trying to say). I think he was suspended for explicitly defying the school administrators.

The point is, he shouldn`t have told anybody he was going to do this. He would have totally gotten away with it.
