It's quite simple. You can have cheap-looking plastic American flags made in the US, if you`re prepared to pay a lot more for them.
The reason they`re made in China and other places around the world is because they`re a lot cheaper to make. Not the process or materials used, mind, but the labour costs incurred for those who operate the machines and do the packing, etc. In China, they earn a lot less than an equivalent worker in the US.
It all has to be paid for, so if you want American flags made in the US, buy the more expensive ones. That is, if you can find any, as it`s patently obvious to any manufacturer in the US that making plastic flags is unviable, simply because everyone is buying the cheaper imported ones! Who`s going to spend more on an equivalent flag, when the China made ones are cheaper? And, who`s going to stock them knowing full well that they`re not going to sell anywhere near as well?

@richanddead keep telling yourself that; it'll make their job easier.
Look, the whole idea of this shift up the value chain only works for the nation if you do not leave the poor behind. Otherwise, you improve your GNP numbers, but median quality of living declines. i.e. the poor suffer and are trapped in an underclass.
It`s still better to be poor in the US than China because of welfare, but the middle class pay disproportionally for that through taxes.

Andrew you don't think Africa is the way it is because most of it`s denizen`s have been enslaved for hundreds/thousands of years? Kinda hard to build a culture when most are kept uneducated.
This trickle down is thing is funny. A discussion for another day.
