The Mid-Blowing U.S. Income Gap [Pic]

Occupy Wall Street is all but gone, while income inequality appears here to stay. Such is life in the United States of America, where the divide between rich and poor can sometimes feel like one of the country's only true constants.

The difficulty is truly grasping the size of that gap, a problem the below infographic by Visualizing Economics helps make easier. Pay special attention to the bottom 90 percent of Americans, who collectively held just a little more than half of the nation's wealth in 2010, all while the wealthiest 0.01 percent held nearly five percent. It's a stark divide many too easily forget.

The only infographic you`ll need to understand how bad it really is.

piratefish-no one is worth that much money when the tens of thousands who have put them there

Sorry, for the most part, they put themselves there. And manage to elevate many others in the process.

See, you`re demonstrating your ignornance. It`s not a zero-sum game.

piratefish-
I don`t have an issue with the people earning
insert `X` amount here.
Don`t care. Your opinion is less the worthless because it has no bearing on what people are `allowed` to earn.

Sorry, but Bill Gates did not become rich by stealing money from someone in the projects. That's YOUR delusion.

I have had the privilege of hosting two different foreign exchange students from Norway. One for 10 months during the 2011-2012 school year, and another during the 2012-2013 school year.

I got to know them, their families, and many of their countrymen during the past 3 years, and I have had the opportunity to learn about Norway firsthand through many of its citizens.

As far as I am concerned, Norway is a great country that has contributed a lot to the world over the centuries, and they don't go around starting wars or playing the world`s policeman.

If I could not live in the US, I would choose to live in either Iceland, or Norway (if I could learn their languages).

Pay no attention to the handful of ignorant, misguided people who, for the most part, don`t realize what they`re saying.

@Andrew Norwegians pioneered hydroelectric power, discovered America for the west. Also have the most Winter Olympic medals of all time despite only just having reached the 5 million mark for population. Also has a rather higher standard of living than Iowa. Also donates more money to foreign aid than Iowa. Also seems that the U.S proportionately spends far less on foreign aid than Norway.

In most countries, there is a labor party in some form or another. USA has only corporate and elite represented.

Second topic, unions. They are seen as negative institutions and for most part, i agree. Unions in USA are not workers unions but powerstructures (same goes for all countries, unions tend to turn against it's members just to keep the power it has). I can say with out a doubt that without proper unions, collective bargain power, you will not have workers rights. Some unions, like in entertainment industry, have saved countless lives; building temporary structures was wild west once where you had to do ridiculously dangerous stuff to cut costs. I mean climbing without harnesses, cutting costs by using inferior materials, skipping safety everywhere.. There the change was radical and for the good and now everyone has to belong to union, otherwise people WILL start to die again..
