Beginning this week, the London Film Museum will be exhibiting 'Bond in Motion', the largest official collection of James Bond vehicles. And it's not just the classic cars from the films, all sorts of great flying vehicles and submarines are on display, too. The exhibit will be running all year long, but if you can't make it, here are some pictures to show you just what you're missing out on.
A hit squad used a swarm of these flying parahawks to launch an attack on Bond (Brosnan) and oil heiress Elektra King in the mountains of Azerbaijan in The World Is Not Enough (1999).
Mercury Cougar XR7
Bond and the villains were not the only ones with fabulous cars. This Mercury Cougar XR7 was driven by 007's wife, Tracy, in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). It was the scene of her untimely death in a drive-by-shooting committed by the spy's arch enemy, Blofeld.
Lotus Espirit Submarine
This Lotus Esprit submarine was driven by Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). Known on set as Wet Nellie, it boasted tires that disappeared inside the body and wing blades that allowed the car to bank, dive and climb like an aeroplane. Not to forget the rear firing mud sprayers, depth charges, surface-to-air missiles, underwater smoke screens and torpedoes of course. The vehicle fetched $907,225 at auction last year.
Little Nellie, a heavily armed autogyro, was piloted in You Only Live Twice (1967) by Sean Connery as Bond, who used it to whizz around a volcano. In reality, it was piloted by a stunt double, Wing Commander Kenneth Wallis, a wartime bomber pilot who built Little Nellie.
This Jaguar XKR featured in another Brosnan outing as Bond, Die Another Day (2002). It was driven by the villain, Zao, a North Korean secret agent, and bristled with extras such as ramming spikes, thermal imaging, rockets in the door and a gun on the back.
Glastron 150 GT
This Glastron 150 GT speedboat was taken for a spin by Bond (Moore) in Live and Let Die (1973) during a boat chase in the bayous of Louisiana.
Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback
This Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback appeared in Connery's last outing as Bond, Diamonds are Forever (1971). With 007 at the wheel during a Las Vegas car chase, it entered an alley up on one set of wheels and mysteriously exited on the other.
The BMW Z8 - kitted out with missiles - was driven by Brosnan as Bond in The World is Not Enough but ended up sliced in half by a helicopter equipped with a saw.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage Series III
This Aston Martin V8 Vantage Series III was driven by Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights (1987). An impressive piece of kit, it featured spike-producing tires, missiles, lasers, signal-intercepting smart radio, head-up display and rocket propulsion. It was also primed to self-destruct.
Aston Martin DB5
This Aston Martin DB5 is featured in the 1995 Bond film Goldeneye in which Pierce Brosnan made his debut in spectacular style in an exhilarating car chase involving this car and villain Xenia Onatopp's Ferrari F355.
Acrostar Mini Jet
This Acrostar mini-jet was piloted by Bond (Moore) in the pre-title sequence of Octopussy (1983) as his pursuers tracked it with a heat-seeking missile. Bond managed to shake it off, naturally.
1962 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II
This Rolls-Royce was featured in A View To A Kill (1985), where Bond (Roger Moore) is driven around in this 1962 Silver Cloud II by Sir Godfrey Tibbett (played by Patrick Macnee). The car - which was pushed into a lake in the film - was owned by its producer, Albert R 'Cubby' Broccoli.
1937 Rolls Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville
Another Roller! This 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville was owned by villain Auric Goldfinger in the 1964 film Goldfinger. Bond (Connery) placed a tracking device in the vehicle to discover that the villain was smuggling gold ore by melting it down and incorporating it into the car bodywork.
