The only place that it is currently legal to distill any type of alcohol without extensive government licensing and regulation is New Zeland. I've been hearing stories all my life about how it is legal to distill a certain amount of alcohol per year for "personal use" in the US, but I can assure you, this is incorrect. Check out ATF`s website, it gives all the low down on the subject. You can legally make beer and similar, and wine and similar, but no distilled spirit of any kind, in the US.

Also, here is a much better website for info about home distillation: http://homedistiller.org/

Enjoy!

How is distilling illegal? You can distill water to purify it. Even distilling alcohol is legal in certain amounts in some states and countries.

Might have a go at this for producing fuel from waste motor oil.
