This story just gets better and better. Get a load of this: In an interview, the couple states that when they first moved onto their property, they wondered about an odd-shaped rock that seemed to have been placed prominently on a hillside. Now they realize it's probably a marker that was placed by the miner. If you walk 10 paces from the rock in the direction of the North Star (true north), you wind up right in the middle of where the treasure was buried.

This story is one of the most incredible things I've ever heard. Oh my gosh: over 1,400 gold coins? Worth $10M? Buried on your property in eight rusting cans?!
In an NPR story, the reporter said the couple that found the coins was initially terrified and had no idea what to do. So they put all the coins inside a plastic cooler, then hid the cooler in their woodpile until they could calm themselves down and think straight.
Here`s a photo of two of the cans the couple dug up.

Saw this on the news. It's up at Sutter`s Mill area where the gold rush started. The couple are staying anonymous `cause they don`t want people digging up their property.
