If I were the fire chief, I'd have my guys respond to a mysterious alarm at the police station complete with at least three pumper trucks and a couple of extra tankers. I`d bust in the doors, tear down the walls with fire axes, flood the place with water, and top it off with a nice thick layer of foam.

@Thonius - these aren't new policies. These are NFPA guidelines. This is the way things have been done for years to protect the patient, the workers, and the public.

00:50 "before this dispute CHP has threatened to arrest other area firefighters" for the same reason.
02:13 "This isn't the first time a firefighter has been detained."
02:30 "This isn`t the first time this type of dispute has happened."
02:54 "this is an isolated incident. . . "
Even if the department promulgates a new policy to allow firefighters to block traffic when necessary and appropriate, a new policy doesn`t create a new culture. The police culture that causes them to believe that they can force firefighters out to clear traffic lanes is not going to change. This won`t be the last time it happens.
