Feels a bit weakly argued to me. But the answer is simple though. If you don't like sports go and watch something else like your endless "reality" shows which, of course, are never fixed... :)

Also, 99.999% of sporting events on TV are boring and interrupt the shows I want to watch. I don't know why people feel any affinity with their "home" team, they are simply a collection of millionaires paid to perform in these entertainment performances.

He doesn't say sports ARE fixed, the author is pointing out that the big four professional sports are businesses, entirely concerned about profit, and have little concern for sportsmanship or the fans. And, if the commissioners and owners decided it was financially beneficial for them to fix games, they would likely do so and there would be few, if any, consequences to those actions.
None of this should be a surprise to anyone.
However, admittedly, I have never seen the appeal of professional or collegiate sports.
