I had a wireless remote that worked with a tiny speaker that made very high pitched noises. The TV was equipped with a microphone as a receiver. It was a Philips K9 chassis model in the early eighties (it was second hand).

I discovered that when I clapped my hands, the TV changed channels, and when I rattled my keys the volume went up...

first WIRELESS remote control - before that remotes were tethered to the tv.
