Checking a consumer price index calculator, it seems $1.70 today has the same buying power as $.80 in '86. So, if it`s around $3.40 today, gas prices have increased about twice as much as the average goods.

Also, around here, it`s around $2.33 per litre, which would be around $8.84 per US gallon. (Which is of course a pointless thing to mention without also taking into consideration wage level etc.)

5Cats,
"Now? $1.14"

Lucky bastard. We were at $1.42 in the summer and have dropped to $1.32 now. I think $1.32 per litre works out to around $5 a gallon?

Yup, when I first started driving, $5 would get you a week's worth of gas and a pack of cigarettes. Now, $5 will maybe get you to work one day, sans cigarettes.

"First job" other than picking crops of course. That's hard work that doesn`t count as a job for some reason.
