hey, don't discount the verbal ability of dogs. i had a dog once, years ago, who started talking to me late one night and subsequently explained the Secret Meaning of Life, to me and me alone.

the next day i quit drinking.

Anyone remember William Peter Blattey's "The Ninth Configuration?" There was a guy in there who was translating Shakespeare for dogs.
