I've always said the difference is whether you have and indoor cat or an outdoor cat. With an outdoor cat, they are much more independent. They act the way cats do that makes cat haters hate them. When you have an indoor cat, (especially one that is alone), they tend to be much more like dogs. They come to you for affection and won`t do anything negative for fear of losing that attention (ie. bitting or scratching). I`ve been able to train our indoor cats to jump through hoops, play dead, jump up and several other tricks. They`d come when I call them and be waiting by the door for me when I got home. Like little dogs.

If my cats think of me as their roommate then I have a dominatrix roommate and her daughter who has a morbid fascination with me and my bathroom habits, her reclusive son, and my aunt's former elderly curmudgeon roommate.

All I know is, unless they are taking a nap where they can't see me, my cats follow me EVERYWHERE in the house. I rarely do anything by myself anymore. Even if they are napping when I walk by, they get up, stretch, yawn and look just like they are thinking "oh great, we`re back on guard duty, thanks for interrupting my nap". Then they watch me go to the bathroom or whatever. If I do close the door, they are always stationed outside the door waiting until I come back out. It`s like having secret service coverage or paparrazi.
