Not that I support war in any form but I have to ask, were we as concerned with civilian casualties during the carpet bombings in WWII?
War, in and of itself, is already a heinous event to be avoided at almost any cost. Trying to make it *Cleaner* will just lead to making it easier to commit without removing any of the "Heinousness" from it.

I imagine quite a few former German concentration camp guards can relate to this. War crimes and crimes against humanity that the operators have a reason to believe are not legal orders. I say hang all the drone operators in international court.

What is difference really between a drone and a manned aircraft killing people? Nothing. Even manned planes have shot up our own troops by accident. Drones can stay up much longer than manned aircraft and when they go down you don't loose a pilot; which are expensive to replace. I`m sorry the author is having a tough time with what he has experienced but, it is still war.

"Regardless, Drones are a good thing, drones mean we're sending less of our troops into the warzone"
Which is fine when you`re sending them into warzoness only. However, when you`re also sending them into countries you`re not at war with to commit extra-judicial assassinations that have civilian collateral, then that argument doesn`t hold much water.
