carmium, I don't doubt it. When the brain tells you to feel pain or nausea, it`s just as real as any broken bone. In split personality cases, if one personalty is diabetic but the others aren`t, the person`s blood chemistry will change and he will be diabetic when that personality is dominant. Stuff like that is well documented. Just something I remember from my psych classes, but it`s amazing what the brain can do.

Gerry: I was hit by a drunk while riding my motorbike home once, and had my pelvis fractured. I lay on a gurney in the waiting room, gasping in pain, for two hours, while they treated a mass psychogenic case in the ER. Some smell had been detected on a bus (deli sandwich, fart, paint thinner, whatever) and it lead to a whole busload of people and the driver getting "sick." The bus pulled over, HazMat and firemen were called, and EVERYbody got sick. Problem was, absolutely nothing was ever found on the bus or in its air. After a lot of media coverage, the story quietly disappeared within two days. Clearly, a lot of professionals were embarrassed at how easily they had bought into the whole poison gas thing.
