Oddly enough, the amount of commerce that occurs on Black Friday is often a good indicator on how much business we can expect to see the following year.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving here in the US. Because Thanksgiving falls on a Thursday, most everyone has the day off on Friday and retails stores have taken advantage of this and offer HUGE discounts starting at midnight (at least until recently when they've started opening on Thanksgiving itself). Anyway, the deals are so good that people wait in line for hours and it`s often mayhem in there. The name "Black Friday" is said to refer to the day of the year that most retail stores make it "into the black" in their profit/loss ledger for the year (black being profit). Alternative etymologies have been offered, however.
