@Andrew it still shouldn't be named after him. Why don`t we call the WWII Memorial the Hitler Memorial? I mean afterall it was Hitler`s/Nazi`s war. I know that`s not the best example but I believe it fits.

Everybody always talks about this as though it were the "alternative history" that they don't teach you in school. But no, that`s stupid. I went to around 10 schools (I don`t feel like counting right now), between Elementary and High School, and they ALL taught this "alternative history". This "alternative history" is THE history they teach you.
Yes, the 1400`s were an awful time. I also think it`s incredibly douchy to hold people from the 1400`s accountable using Western liberal values of the 2010`s. In case you weren`t aware, he has a holiday not because of brutal tactics, but because he caused the general awareness among Europeans of the New World (people have a phobia of the word `discover`).
And this general awareness caused colonization and immigration, which caused America. It`s not rocket surgery.
