@madest: Didn't Nixon start/enhance the EPA?

Now the EPA is being used to control things outside the bounds of Law. Who needs silly `bills and votes` when the PotUS can simply order the EPA, IRS, ATF or other alphabet soup to do XYZ... often against the wishes of the American Citizens.

For example? Using the Parks Service to ILLEGALLY shut down National Parks & Monuments:

Wait, how did a post on the government shut down turn into an attack on the EPA? Will our budget be balanced if we defund the EPA? =/ The EPA costs less than half of what it costs to subsidize corn.

I do agree with Andrew that the EPA has moved from "let's protect the environment" towards "let`s create construction projects and say that we`re creating jobs." It would be nice if the EPA returned back to its roots.

Andrew, The reason our air doesn't look like China`s is because of the EPA. The water you drink from the tap is clean because of the EPA. You might think we could do it cheaper but I`d like to see your credentials. Right now you`re just another dumb teabagger.

PS: The NSA is open.

Isn't it amazing.
In all this bickering and moaning, tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth, one single fact seems to have been overlooked:
You will now be able to send an e-mail to someone, happy in the knowledge that it will only have one recipient, because the NSA will be asleep. Enjoy it while you can!

I can guarantee that the resolution to any oil spill will not be altered by the existence of about half of the EPA's budget.

Most of what the EPA does is nonsense and has nothing to do with the truly noble goal of having a clean planet. I used to live on a military base called MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL. The Air Force decided to build a hospital in one of the open lots. However, it turns out this rather ordinary land was some special wetland (pretty much all the land here is). So if they`re going to build that hospital, they are FORCED to build a manmade lake next to the hospital.

You don`t think it`s so ridiculous yet. That`s because the kicker hasn`t happened yet. The hospital - as well as this new government-mandated lake - were directly adjacent to the runway. You don`t put a lake next to a runway. Birds. They became a huge problem, potentially life-threatening.

So they threw a net over the government-mandated lake.
