The sun may be around for a billion years but the way the human are DEgressing, none of us will be around here for it anyway. In fact here is my theory..... The human race will collectively blow each other up, which will blast earth off it's orbit and set a collision course with the sun. The Earth will heat up +1000º and melt into a oblivion. (Sarcasm? well...kinda...kinda not)

Answer to prevent this: Unless the world comes together, don`t think there is one.

A BILLION years? This is as relevant as "can humanity survive the end of the universe?"

Humans have been around for 40,000-50,000 years and neanderthals lived for 600,000 years. We could conceivably nuke ourselves into oblivion tomorrow.

Basically, the short answer to the poster's question, "Does humanity stand a chance against our sun`s ultimate fate?," is: NO, we don`t.

I enjoyed this video nonetheless because the vampire drawing was hilarious.
