We had a dog once who had issues. I honestly believe he was born with brain damage. He'd try and bite anyone outside of our family, and we had to keep him locked in a bedroom whenever we had company.
One day while babysitting a close family friend`s toddler with down syndrome, my mother hadn`t closed the door to the room where the dog was properly. The little guy was asleep in another room in a playpen.
I went in to check on the little guy and found our dog, the biting machine, in the playpen lying down next to the toddler and giving him the odd lick on the cheek. From then on, every time we babysat the toddler, our dog would stay by his side, and patiently allowing his hair to be pulled, his toys taken away, and having a toddler lay across his body. (always supervised btw.) It was the wildest thing.
