"Don't get me wrong, I don`t want to see that happen."

I`d LOVE to see that happen. If the republican party broke up with true common sense fiscal conservatives remaining "republicans" and the tea-party, anti-governmnet, neo-con religious crack-pot, fundamentalist, gun-crazy, anti-science, social police formed a new party I`d actually be able to vote republican again.

HG: It still wouldn't surprise me at all if the two major parties we have now, ended up splitting apart.

There is so much tension between the sides of each party that something will eventually rip them apart. Don`t get me wrong, I don`t want to see that happen. It would be disastrous, we`d end up with a coalition style of government that wouldn`t serve anyone very well.

"I would disagree..."

I said "for the most part". During the last major election there were thousands of elections and probably less than 5% had a 3rd party option. So whether you agree or not my statement is still correct.

HG: "The only important choice we really makes that defines our political alignment is voting. You only get two choices. A or B. There is no "other" for the most part."

I would disagree, American politics has been full of 3rd parties over the years. Some of which were successful to some degree. For instance the Republican party was once a 3rd party and so was the Bull Moose party. There is no prohibition of additional political parties in America.
