security clearances, apparently, have become a joke now. They are granted by contractors, not he defense department.

When I got my TS clearance nearly 20 years ago, I was working for a contractor, but the investigation was conducted by OPM with the aid of the FBI. Nearly every single person I mentioned in my interview got a visit from the FBI to confirm what I had said. It caused quite a stir at my alma mater when they showed up and wanted to talk to all of my old professors.

The highlight of my interview was this exchange:

"Have you or any member of your family ever belonged to an organization that advocated the overthrow of the government?"

"Yes. My mother was a DAR."

"Well, we don't really count that."

"Why not? They didn`t just advocate overthrowing the government; they actually DID it."

The old gal actually smiled a little. I thought her face was going to crack.

@McGov ~ I think that little piece of initial misinformation comes from the fact that most people can't tell the difference between a pea-shooter and a hole in the ground.
Especially when in a panic from being shot at.

You wouldn`t believe how many times someone has refereed to one of my firearms as an AK-47, even when it was a pistol.
{Hint: I don`t own an AK or any gun that looks even remotely like one)

Uncle Joe Biden told us all to go get shotguns, so that's exactly what the Navy Yard shooter did. The first thing he did was kill a guard and take his Glock 9 mm.

Ya notice how the reports of him having an AR-15 the lefty news kept reporting mysteriously dissappeard once they started reporting facts....which you know they should be doing to begin with.

And one more thing, I am getting very tired of hearing white house or congress members leaking classified data. Does Assad need to hear that we have the capability to intercept his military communications...just so Obama can save face when he "have evidence" that chemical weapons were used? Keep that stuff top secret!

security clearances, apparently, have become a joke now. They are granted by contractors, not he defense department. There apparently is no "need to know" anymore, since two recent big cases have shown that anyone with a laptop and a clearance can get all sorts of documents they should have NO access too.

The best explanation I can think of, is that when the Russians became quasi allies instead of deadly enemies, we let our guard down--got really sloppy.

THey actually need to send out government agents to check on people again (even secret level), and re-establish a strict need to know
