@5Cats: No, we DON'T know because we weren`t there. The video cannot posibly tell the entire story. We don`t know what was said and we don`t know what Yatim was doing immediately before being shot. For all we know he may have told police he had a bomb strapped to him; we just don`t know yet, so stop acting like the judge, jury, and executioner until ALL the facts come out.
While the use of force may have been excessive (and that has not been determined yet), Yatim unequivocally brought this all on himself. I`m disgusted by the left-wing media`s propensity to paint people like Yatim as the victim, conveniently glossing over the fact that he initiated the confrontation with police. I feel no sympathy for people a person who produces a weapon in a public place, threatens innocent people, and subsequently dies in the ensuing police standoff. The police protected the public from a disturbed knife-wielding criminal. That`s that.

Who knows what actually transpired at the scene immediately before the shots were fired? Um WE KNOW? Because the video footage may be edited for the website BUT it's 100% covered in the "raw" form? WE KNOW! That Yatim stayed inside the trolly without ever trying to exit. WE KNOW! That Forcillo shouted threats and other "non-productive" things at him. Then shot him. Then shot him some more.
OK? There is NO EXCUSE for this behaviour! If there is? I`d GLADLY listen to it! Haven`t heard anything yet...
OF COURSE Mr.Forcillo is "innocent until proven" and that`s why he`s out on bail! I have NO problems with this.
Thanks for being polite! Any further questions?
@carmium: Shot 9 times... THEN TASERED! Something is seriously wrong here...

Even when deadly force is clearly warranted, why is it that a perp is never shot once or twice? It's as if one cop starts shooting and several others are compelled to jump in. A guy who might have survived ends up shot umpteen times.

@5Cats: Yes, I've seen the video footage and yes, the officers do appear to have used force which may have been excessive. But I don`t care. Again, Yatim brought this ALL on himself. It`s because of his crazy actions that the police showed up. I have zero sympathy for him. Sorry.
Do any of us have all the details yet? No. Who knows what actually transpired at the scene immediately before the shots were fired. The video footage doesn`t tell the whole story.

@caper454: The video footage of the event is at the link.
Yes, Yatim did pull a knife (and his junk!) on a streetcar full of people. They ALL left! He was alone in the streetcar for several minutes! With 20 police surrounding him, talking to the cops. Yes, he was in the middle of a crime.
The problem is: the way this particular cop (Focillo) handled the situation. Screaming threats? SHOOTING? It's not right.
