@turdburglar He would have been 19 when the War ended in 1947. Fighting with the Germans ended in 1945, he would have been 17. While it is possible he lied about his age to join, if he had "lied" at age 16 it may have been possible he went overseas.
(I have a history minor and studied WWII.)
I say this because he would have been in training around two months at 16 in 1944. However, it is unlikely a 16 year old could have completed the training. Now, if he had waited until age 17, he would have missed the war entirely because it was more abbreviated and took up to 2 years by the end of the war for training to complete. Which would have put his "deployment" at 1947.
Its just a matter of math. He either convinced everyone at 16 he was a full grown man, or he didn't go to WWII. Stolen valor is common I am afraid, and hardly ever investigated.
Apparently, Daniel J. Daley was a veteran of WWII and Vietnam. A quick online search shows it's true. Also, this story has been picked up by dozens and dozens of news agencies, and none so far have said to the contrary. The story is 3 years old which would have made him 19 when the war ended. It was also VERY VERY VERY common for people to lie about their age so they could serve their country. There is reason they are called the greatest generation.
I realize that an online search doesn`t make me an expert, and definitely doesn`t make me right...but I`ll wager that you did far less research before you confidently declared "He was not a WWII veteran."

oobaka - Just keeping it simple for a simpleton. Dude had handcuffs on. He was already restrained. How does running your mouth to a cop warrant this kind of action?
You act like there is no possible course of action between asking nicely and beating the guy's head into a coma.
We pay these fu#kers to do a job like professionals, and not take it personal. Don`t bother with the "it was a accident" garbage. He was trying to hurt him. Maybe not quite so bad, but that definitely was no accident.
