"There are 10 times more bacterial cells in your body than human cells, according to Carolyn Bohach, a microbiologist at the University of Idaho..." Not only are they watching you, they most probably influence your daily life.
"Following your gut," refers to the "little gut," or area of the stomach with a high concentration of bacteria. Is that a craving that YOU are having or your bacteria is having? When you don't want to eat the food or take the medicine that will rid you of your illness, is it you or is it the billions of bacteria or virus cells that are trying to stay alive? Add to that multiple other microbes and parasites that regularly inhabit the body, trying to feed on the energy of the mitochondria and it`s a regular town hall meeting in there!
Creepy? Sure. But, true nonetheless. "I yam what I yam," says Popeye, but what I yam is a veritable universe of sentient beings!
