I went to a barbecue a couple days ago at a New Zealander woman's house. She lived there while they were filming LOTR and worked on it a little. She said they had hired a bunch of locals to make fake chain mail. They spent hours and hours drinking beer and cutting small pvc pipe into rings with a single slit that would then get dunked in silver paint and then linked together to make sheets of fake chain mail for the costumers to use. The main actors wore real chain mail but the background people wore this lighter and cheaper plastic mail. She also said any local who could ride a horse got recruited to be a part of the huge battle scenes. Pretty interesting.

Body count---What about Star Wars? They blew up an entire planet, and the Death Star with millions (I assume) in it.

Also calling bullsh*t on the "bluest eyes" bit.

As for body count, well, they may have a valid point. Although there's other movies like I Am Legend where the entire f*cking population of the planet dies, in terms of actual on-screen deaths seen, Return of the King may well take the biscuit. There`s even a website dedicated to this kind of thing (for what it`s worth): http://www.moviebodycounts.com/
