I once ordered ackee and saltfish at a Jamaican establishment. The presentation and odor of the dish was enough to make me want to hurl...unfortunately the taste was no improvement.
An octopus sucker once latched itself to my tonsil as a child though I believe that the creature was quite dead. I had a rough time ousting the damn thing; particularly because my family laughed at me while I frantically attempted to explain the situation.

Cassava is a staple food in Africa. About 90 million tons per year are produced. Because the root can be left in the ground, it acts as a back-up store for hard times in case annual crops fail. More recently cassava is being used as biomass for fuel.
