Sex is a weird thing and has gone through a lot of evolution. To say that wanting to bone one thing is totally different than wanting to tag something else, I think is just not seeing the forest from the trees. Organisms just want to have sex with, what they want to have sex with. I don't see it as a matter of "orientation" vs. "preference." There is just too much variations to that rule for that to be so, I see it as just word play.
We are all oriented to have sex with a designated partner of the same species for the purpose of reproduction. As culture, whether it be an animal culture (like a pack or herd) or a human culture comes into play, certain sexual preferences are made and even reinforced evolutionarily and adapted if seen as beneficial. But first always comes mutation whether it be a genetic mutation or a mutation of preference or thought pattern. I see this as just a sexual form of mutation.

It isn't just homo, hetero, and bi. Some people are oriented toward plants and trees or inanimate objects like buildings and sidewalks. Some people even get oriented toward certain sounds and smells, not kidding. These things have no sexual classification whatsoever, but people become aroused by them and direct their erotic desires toward them. Rule 34 has been seen throughout time and even in other animals. I know parks in Africa found out that their Rhino populations had decreased because male elephants were mating with them and killing them in the process. Orcas and dolphins just rape anything. Wood frogs kill all other amphibians around by raping them to the point where the animal literally bursts open. Only female Wood frogs have a extra bone to support their rib cages from the squeezing the male does, but sometimes this doesn`t even work. And Chimps and Orangutans have been known to be pedophiles, and use bones and sticks as sex toys.

@lauriloo: "people are into bestiality because they find it impossible to have a normal relationship with another human being or are so terrified of rejection they go for something that can't reject them."
That might be a component but I would think thats what sextoys are for. Going all the way to submitting yourself to a horse, that`s a little much for just not being a people person.
"people usually have an "orientation" to what sex of the animal they prefer to be with."
Sure, I can believe that they are oriented tward wich genatalia they prefer, but they are also oriented toward the animal itself. It`s not that he couldn`t get laid this weekend and his hand was hurt, he is driven by the fact it is an animal too, in this case a horse. He doesn`t buy a dog even if it would be would be cheaper and less obvious because he could take it into his house. This guy is turned on by horses in particular and takes risks to be with them.

I think some people are into bestiality because they find it impossible to have a normal relationship with another human being or are so terrified of rejection they go for something that can't reject them. Besides, how can you complain about bestiality when most people here treat their pets far more than just animals and would feel like a relative died if their pet died? We just draw a line at having sex with them and other people don`t. I`ve seen documentaries about bestiality and even then, the people usually have an "orientation" to what sex of the animal they prefer to be with.
